Didn't those smokey and the bandit '79 Trans Ams come with a smog strangled 301 V8 that made like 130hp? A friend of mine had one in high school...all show and no go.

At least some of the Trans Ams had 455 engines, I remember a Car & Driver article detailing how they outperformed the Corvettes, even in handling. Never owned one though

The Trans Am Racing Series was my favorite of all time.

Before the Burt & Sally cars, before smog laws screwed 'em up, the Pontiac Trans-Am hauled ass, and handled amazingly well.

Oops-

Hit the wrong button! I'll try it here:

Here's my favorite TA...

... but then I'm a little biased.

Before...

After...

(Braless for the "T" aspect as identified above )

The fun $tuff:
17x9F, 17x11R ZR-1 wheels, C5 front brakes, suspension mods, LT4 spec stroker motor, "bulletproof" T56, fabricated rear mount 62-1 turbo, front mount IC, 498 RWHP & 579 RWTQ @ 11-12 PSI.

What's that thing weigh? 3800#s?

I'm sure it's speedy, a helluva lot faster than my old '88 targa, but they just don't do much for me.
