Didn't those smokey and the bandit '79 Trans Ams come with a smog strangled 301 V8 that made like 130hp? A friend of mine had one in high school...all show and no go.

At least some of the Trans Ams had 455 engines, I remember a Car & Driver article detailing how they outperformed the Corvettes, even in handling. Never owned one though
The Trans Am Racing Series was my favorite of all time.

Here's my favorite TA... ... but then I'm a little biased. Before...  After...  (Braless for the "T" aspect as identified above ) The fun $tuff: 17x9F, 17x11R ZR-1 wheels, C5 front brakes, suspension mods, LT4 spec stroker motor, "bulletproof" T56, fabricated rear mount 62-1 turbo, front mount IC, 498 RWHP & 579 RWTQ @ 11-12 PSI.

What's that thing weigh? 3800#s?
I'm sure it's speedy, a helluva lot faster than my old '88 targa, but they just don't do much for me.
