Usually dont post RIPs, but James Brown just passed away.
And no one threw down a tighter groove than James Brown and his bands. He was a true legend and will be missed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Brown_(musician) Last edited by Sonic dB; 12-24-2006 at 11:46 PM.. |

My dad saw him when he was in college, (mid-1950s), I saw him when I was in college, (late '70s), and if I'd had kids they could have seen him when they were in college in recent years. I've always considered that one of the amazing facts of my life. Hell, I thought it was amazing that he was still performing w/ such energy when I saw him ~30 years ago.
A true original if there ever was, he will be missed. ![]()

When James would get Maceo, Fred and PeeWee (and even young Bootsy) "in the pocket", you HAD to move your feet. RIP bad man...

I'm sitting here trying to understand why he would be missed by anyone.
His music? Bah, yelling. Not singing, just yelling. his style? bah, early bling. Nothing good about that. Liberachi ghetto is not a style. Maybe the wife beating, criminal record, drug related arrests, nope, not much to admire there. I'm obviously uniformed, little help please? I cannot find a single redeeming characteristic about this man or his life. |

He was the funkiest person on the planet. One of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Maybe listen to some nice Pat Boone records instead... ![]() Last edited by nostatic; 12-25-2006 at 08:49 AM.. |

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool then to speak (type) and remove all doubt. I guess he never heard that one.

OK, but please telll me what is admirable about funky? How is what he did good?
I watched him jump around, twitch like he was spastic, yell, if I didn't know any better I would swear he was doing an immitation of George Jefferson. movin on up, to the east side........... Either he was copying Sherman Hemsly (sp?) or other other way around. Either way it was not cool, or good, or art. Pat Boone sang songs. Good songs. Music. You know, that stuff that isn't posing or pretending or yelling. Of course it's hard to try and latch onto a certain clique and pretend to be cool if it's understood or mainstream. I guess if it's strange different or "ethnic" it doesn't have to be good, and you aren't suppose to admit that no matter what or you will be labeled ignorant. Kind of like the emperor's new clothes. It's more acceptable to go along with the sheep and pretend to like something that is crap than to be different than the crowd. It's important to be a non-comformist so you can fit in with everyone else. Speeder, I'm sorry. What did you say? I can't hear you. |

Sorry Sammy, if you have to ask, you don't get it. But suffice it to say that there is a huge cultural world beyond the narrow confines of white middle class america (and the OC). |
