.410 Shotguns

I have been looking for a nice new or used .410 over/under shotgun for a few months. I shoot a lot of skeet and hunt doves on my farm. I want the challenge of shooting/hunting with a .410.

I have to say, the field is full of $1000.00 and $2000.00 dollar guns and I was just not ready to test the waters at that price.

Enter Stoeger...$339.00 out the door. I know it's a cheap gun, but for the love of all things with a trigger, I could not find a thing wrong with the gun, and I have in my own anal retentive way looked at a bunch of guns.

I figure, shoot and learn, work with the fit, buy better later if I want.

Link: (Absolutely NO affiliation...didn't even know about them until I bought one today)

I have a New England Firearms .410 which I used to learn to shoot skeet. It's about as basic as you can get, break barrel single shot with a manual hammer, full choke. I realize that this is not what you would be looking for, but I wanted to echo your comment that using a .410 is a challenge! I became pretty good with sporting clays, skeet etc with that .410 and in comparison the grouping of a 12 or even 16 gauge is just luxurious... it's like learning how to handle a 911 with a 2.0 engine and then upgrading to a 3.6.

Good...that's how I'm thinking. I have a single shot .410 that I bought for my son and I just keep thinking it is a better way. And, $339.00!!!

I have a bolt action .410. Fun gun for training a kid. I have no clue where it came from, my dad got it as part of a trade.

Yeah, but Parkers are to shotgunning what four cam 356's are to Porsches. Sweet little pieces, but too expensive and impractical for daily use.

I have admittedly never been much of a shotgunner. My shooting has been more or less restricted to ducks and geese, and I don't even go after them anymore. I have been nothing but a 12 gauge shooter all of my life. That said, I think a cool little .410 would just be a hoot. I still like busting informal clay birds.

Anyway, I have heard good things about the Stoegers as really durable day-to-day shooters. I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up as a shooter. I hear their side-by-sides are very popular in Cowboy Action Shooting, so they must hold up well.

as a luxury i'd LOVE a full range of SxS's w/ double triggers. neat stuff and there's something cool about being able to change bbls (and thus choke) so quickly.

I grew up shooting a single shot Winchester .410. If you can hit something with that, you can hit it with anything, so its good practice and a nice gun for anyone to shoot.

Go for it!

I have a Mossberge .410 bolt action I bought for home protection. 1 in the chamber and 4 in the mag.
A .410 will put down a man but doesn't carry enough punch to go through your walls and kill your family member. 12, 20, 10 guage shotguns will keep on moving through a few walls.
Great guns.
