How many of you do this?

So I got this tricycle for my son for Christmas. It comes with all the tools to put it together. I have deemed these unfit for use and took the whole thing out to the garage work area and assembled it with real tools. :)

It's actually nice to work on something that's not greasy and has all the parts!!

Merry Christmas, all.

Nice to put something together that does not require some obscure gapping tools that exists only in the depths of John Walkers tools box.

Oh yeah...never use the tools provided. That's a man rule.

Don't do that anymore! my "kids" are 18 and 21. I remember one year my wife brought me a bike to assembly at about 10:30 PM on xmas eve and I was pretty much in the bag as it was, that wasn't fun.

Merry Christmas Steve!

Steve, you're spoiled with all those good tools of yours. Merry Christmas! :)

+1. Using those cheapazz little stamped steel wrenches they give you is a man-card violation.

Actually being unable to figure out how to assemble your kid's toy? Man-card violation approaching revocation of your sack!

Man-club bonus points - assemble Ikea knock-down furniture using a metric hex bit in your DeWalt driver drill...

svandamme 12-26-2006 01:37 AM

did you upgrade it ? chain tensioner? wider wheels? suspension geometry changed? leather sports seat? aero package?

k9handler 12-26-2006 05:14 AM

HAHA points for me - I cut off one end of their tool - chucked it up and put that baby together in no time!

You also get extra points for assembling it correctly then opening the directions - one of my specialities (much to my wife's dismay)...

Instructions? I don't need no stinkin instructions! I call them "de-structions" anyway, they are as clear as mud.

Best to break out the power tools, beer and carefully selected swear words...just do it out of sight of your kids!

JeremyD 12-26-2006 01:01 PM

and of course extra points if you can re-engineer while assembly to make it stronger...

Damn straight. If the job requires more than one screw or nut, you gotta go electric. My neighbor fires up the air compressor for a job of any size. He's hard core.

I always save those little things though. I figure one day I will find some application that needs a razor thin 10mm wrench.

I will admit to opening the directions on this one....I had a few drinks with dinner and my concentration wasn't up to figuring it out on my own. :)

No upgrades... I'll make sure he can reach the pedals first. :)
