CZ's
Ok, another gun thread.
The gunsmith next door is building me a custom 1911 on a Springfield frame, it'll be a perfect piece, but the price is making me pale (custom extractor, beavertail, safety, checkering on grip front, bushing, trigger work, finish yada-about the price of a set of used Kinesis) In the meantime, he sending over a CZ to plink with, a $125 gun that's brand new; does anyone have any experience with these things? Should I even bother?

I absolutely LOVE my CZ !!
I find it to be well built with good quality. I like it MUCH better than my 1911. Plus, it is a simpler design. Guns and Ammo nominated the CZ75D as "Gun of the Year" in 2003, so they also apparently think highly of them.

Yeah, which model CZ? If it's a 75, or any derivation thereof, $125 is a STEAL.
If it's a CZ 52 or some other old comblock pistol, then $125 isn't a BAD price...

CZ is on my buy-someday list. For $125 I'd buy it today.

CZ 75 was not importable to US when developed, we weren't allowed any Commie guns back then. Otherwise it would be much more popuar than it is. The design is a bit dated today. Beretta 92 filled the void.
BTW, for $125 one could do much worse than a CZ 52. Jim

Just bought a CZ 75 SP-01 a couple of days ago. I paid $500 (incl. shipping) for a gun that shoots like it cost $900+.
I fired a CZ 75 for the first time in 1985/6 and still remember being ridiculously impressed with it. Not uncommonly called the "world's finest handgun" by folks in the know -- though I wouldn't presume to attach that accolade, as I haven't fired everything else out there. CZ is the largest small arms manufacturer in the world (IIRC), and the quality shows. I own one of their .22s, which is probably my favorite long gun to take out and shoot, and I'm in love with the CZ 750 (their .308 sniper). You'd be hard pressed to go wrong with a CZ. The price-for-performance exceeds H&K, FN, Beretta (all of which I think very highly of) and just about anything else I've owned or shot. It's only a matter of time before more folks become familiar with the quality of CZ, and then they'll charge what the market will truly bear for such fine weapons. JP

Sorry to stray off topic, but how many other companies have made guns and motorcycles?
I know that BSA, famous for their bikes and the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world at one time, stands for Birmingham Small Arms. Are there any others?

CZ75 was a popular frame for IPSC games in .38 Super to make major.

How about Daewoo Industrial. They make ships, cars, televisions, and... military firearms. I had read that at one time some of our US military weapons were being made under contract by Daewoo.
I used to have a Daewoo K2.

I don't think CZ makes motorcycles... CZ stands for Czeska Zbrojovka, which means 'Czech Weaponsfactory'.

I think Skoda used to make weapons, but not small arms and they still make cars. Just about every car manufaturer on the planet has been a military contractor for some stuff. I believe Mitsubishi made the Zeros in WWII. BMW did plenty of work then too.
