Selling my SC for $650
Yeah right!
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has offered to take the car out of my hands for $650 to help reduce air pollution. Luckily, my car passes smog w/o issue so I get to keep my car a little longer. Isn't there a renewed theory about cow farts and agriculture causing more air pollution than cars? Leave my Porsche alone! |

I got one of those stupid things in the mail too (think it was from SoCal Air Quality Management District or some such other useless, fund-sucking agency), crap about "if you have an older car you might be able to sell it to us (for an obscenely low amount of money) and then go get a new one at full-price!!! What a deal!!!".
Government bureaucrat jackasses. Schit like this irritates the living hell out of me, especially when one realizes their hard-stolen tax dollars are being used to fund the imbiciles (through gubmint "job programs") that come up with this crap. These doofuses wouldn't last five minutes in the private sector if that's the best they can come up with. For the CARB: My 944 passed emissions with flying colors - not too shabby for a 20-year-old car, huh? So you can SUCK MY C*CK!!! *********s. If it ever doesn't pass, guess what I'm doing? Waiting until the 30-year exemption rolls around and then driving it anyway. I'll seafoam it right in your parking lot too, muthaf*cka! I'm all for clean air and gladly keep my cars well-maintained in the interest of doing my part, but when some gubmint assclown is gonna' suck up to the car manufacturer's lobby (which I'm sure is what this is really about) and insist that I "buy a new car", I'll kick 'em square in the nuts.

They stopped the 30 year rolling right after it started to happen.

It's actually a good program. The low amount they offer assures that no cars other than $8.00 schit cans get the crusher, I don't think you have to worry about anyone turning in their early 911S or original 440 Charger. If they did, that was a person who is so crazy that they probably wipe their ass with money and try to spend toilet paper anyways.
Haven't you ever been driving behind a 1976 Chevy conversion van that has been rear-ended hard and is spewing black smoke out the tail pipe? You wonder how they could drive something that costs more to fill w/ fuel than the car is worth? This program is for those retards, not Porsche owners. Pick another battle, IMO.

Every day driving to work, I literally see a half dozen or more POS box trucks with worse emissions than that and ANOTHER half-dozen vehicles of various types with criminally out-of-date registrations. Think they're smog legal? Nope. Like I said, instead of going after people like ourselves (who keep our cars reasonably well-tuned and play by the rules more often than not), go after the schitboxes belching out the black smoke. Oh wait, that might result in a "racial profiling" lawsuit right?
The notice I got specifically mentioned my Porsche too (must've gotten it from DMV records or something). Oddly it didn't mention the other 944. I'll see if I can find the notice but I suspect I shredded it already.

Alright $800 but that is my last offer!
When shall I drop by to pick it up? I believe we have Arnould to thank for canceling the smog rollback.

Huh, a few years back I got one but it was only $500 and the vehicle had to be able to pass smog!
Don't worry, Citytow will just come and take it out of your garage or back yard while your not home ![]() Agree it's a good incentive for getting rid of some of the bottomfeeders though.$802.

Believe me, I don't like unnecessary govt. interference into people's lives, but this is a good program. The problem with any strict ideological stand is that you cannot be flexible and accept when they do something right. No one is being forced to sell their car to the state, so what's your problem w/ it? And nobody is going to sell a car for $650 that they can get $900 for, unless they are an idiot.
You cannot own an old car that has value in CA. and not know it; an old lady driving a '68 Camaro w/ a 6-banger gets asked 14 times a day if she wants to sell. And gets another 5 notes on the windshield. Same w/ any early 911, even if it's a stinking POS that belongs in the junkyard. Hot Rod magazine has an agenda, and a shrinking advertising base as baby boomers become too old to drive and the next generation doesn't give a schit about old American cars. I've read it since the '60s and I'm a fan, but let's face it, any car that you or I would want to own is not in danger of being sold for $650. One last thing; the 1960s were not the good old days in SoCal the way they were in the middle of nowhere. (Rural Oregon). Smog was so bad that it made your eyes burn and caused immediate respiratory problems in people. If it had not been dealt with by govt. regulations, Southern California would not be an economically viable place today. It would resemble the worst super-fund site ever imagined, think 3 mile island or some river in China where they dump raw mercury in mixed w/ fertiliser and pig schit. Yeah, private business deals w/ problems like that real effectively. ![]() Thanks to the EPA, (whose existence still is not understood I'm sure in the region where Ted Kozinski hid), the air in Los Angeles today is magnitudes cleaner than 40 years ago, even w/ 3 times as many vehicles on the road in the county and more ships and dirty diesel trucks than ever. This is solely the result of govt. regulation. Private industry cannot take one iota of credit for it. If it was up to the American businessman or the auto industry, $5.00 per car in profit would trump clean air. I am not exagerating. Clean air and water is one example of private enterprise and the free market being absolutely worthless. Don't believe me? I have a river in China for you to swim in. ![]()
