Does any of you know about Royal Enfied Bullet 500 bikes?
Are they reliable, known faults?
I am thinking of buying this 1997 Bullet 500, se pics below, with custom tank and seat.
Any comments!

1997 enfield? made in india. hit and miss quality. the drum brakes are not going to have a lot of whoah. it looks fun though. if the year was a typo, know this: i will NEVER own a vintage british vehicle EVER again.

I rented one in Delhi and did Kashmir with it.

3 months, 7,000 kilometers and not a single problem. I had to tighten the plugs 2 or 3 times—as they tend to vibrate loose. Ditto for various other nuts and bolts. But you go into any shop and they will know what to do. No worries.

These bikes are bullet-proof. In India you regularly see families of 5 or 6 riding on them.

things vibrating loose is not my definition of bullet proof. however, your report of Km's and time is pretty impressive. ride on.

Replaced the dual exhaust on this CL160 with a 2-into-1 ending with a reverse megaphone I made. That handsome guy is Baldor, my garage buddy.

I've always viewed those as "retro" Enduro bikes more than "cafe"...

I know where you can get a bike just like this for cheap!

http://www.triumphrat.net/triumph-motorcycles-for-sale/118728-one-of-kind-04-thruxton.html

Sorry for pimping my sale here, but seems OK since it is a not a rival site.

The original tank was red with checkers, but the PO didn't care for it and swapped with someone looking to make a Bonnie into a Thrux. I dig the tank as is, but if I change my mind I can always paint it. The only downside now is he sold the rear fairing/seat cover with the tank.
