Disneyland observations...

The three kids are out of school and begged for a trip to Mickeys house. Man, I HATE amusement parks. If you are into people watching, there may be no better place than Walt's Mainstreet.

We are a species that is aquiring mutations at an alarming rate. I'm sure of it. There is no way the wild variations of "normal" you see in an amusement park can be natural. If you go to the beach or to a nice club, you might run into some attractive people. Not gonna happen in Disneyland. People are so ugly you would think it would interfere with their ability to reproduce. Sadly, it doesn't. The fat people aren't just fat, they're ENORMOUS! And they are stuffing their faces with corndogs and churros as fast as they can. And if you're REALLY fat, I mean world-class fat, you can skip the hour long lines and drive your electric go-cart to the front of the line. That's nice.

There are Emo's and Cutters and purple haired punks and even guys wearing skirts. I saw one guy with so many facial piercings it looked like he fell into a tackle box. Bizarre.

After a day in the "Happiest Place on Earth". I decompressed at the House of Blues. Jalapeno rosemary cornbread with sweet maple butter, passable Jambalaya and ice cold beer while James Brown sings "Get up offa that thang!"

I saw a sign at Splash mountain that warned; "You are about to enter a wild ride to your happy place. There are twists and turns and LOT'S of adventure. You may get wet! You must be this high to ride."

I wish I had that sign on my bedroom door in college.

Exactly. What kind of mutants need to be reminded to remain seated on the Matterhorn in two languages?

When I was there 20 years ago, it was so much different. Wife and kids had a blast. I bet that in 5-7 years, Walt's dream will be a dream. Sad to say, I dont know where we are headed, but it;s not nice.

For any normal grownup, Disneyland is a little piece of hell right here on earth.

Hmmm...Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm may be all we have soon. Magic Mountain will soon close, and I've heard rumors that Legoland might do the same. Given that, would you wait three hours for a minute-long ride on Space Mountain or the Matterhorn?

We purchased 1 year passes in 2004-2005 to take the 2 y/o and 12 y/o (at the time) here in Florida. You are right, its an alternate universe as far as I am concerned. All that is wrong in America is concentrated in one place. Never again.

Since purchasing our home in North Carolina we have been spending any free time we have up there. We head out to hiking trails and land features you can climb to the top of.

Guess what? No alarmingly obese people in motor scooters with 6 kids dancing around them.

Just lots of thin people or at the least people trying to get in good shape, with an uncountable amount of labradors enjoying nature. No crowds, no overpriced concessions.

I may never take my kids back to Disney and I really do not think they are missing anything. I would prefer them to hike to a peak or discover a waterfall in the forest than stand in a line for 2 hours to ride a 20 second ride.

I will never pay for my daughter to go to one of these artificial fantasy lands. Like Jim I think the outdoors is the best entertainment there is. My little girl may never be able to tell anyone about her 2 minute ride at Disney, but she will be able to talk for hours about a hike we took, a fishing trip, a campout.

I am proud to say that I have lived in Florida for 17 years and NEVER been to Disney World, ad neither have my kids.

Hell, take a drive up to east L.A. sometime. Or one of the fried chicken joints in Compton. Some of the porkers there would amaze you.

And to think California used to have a reputation for being a health-food capital and a place for healthy lifestyles.

I dunno about you guys, but I actually don't mind going to places like Disneyland, Knotts, etc. All the walking and fresh air tends to do one good. Yes, the people tend to be obnoxious and stupid and there are too many of them, but that's pretty much like everywhere else in our society now - overpopulated. You just learn to deal with it. In a few years the U.S. will look like China.

DMV?!?! LOL! Get a AAA membership dude. It's worth the price of admission just to not have to ever set foot in that craphole again - plus you get the three tows a year and all that.

The wife and I went to Disneyworld about 5 years ago, I didn't notice too much terribly wrong at the time. Perhaps there is a fundamental difference between who goes to Disneyland in Kalifornia and Disneyworld in Florida?

Now, the fat people are an exception, they're everywhere.

The wife and I actually enjoyed Orlando very much. Not much of a vacation though, we did 6 parks in 5 days. Day 1 - Epcot and Animal Kingdom, Day 2 - Disney MGM, Day 3 - Universal Studios, Day 4 - Disneyworld, Day 5 - Universal Islands of Adventure. Damn were my feet tired.

Best park, MGM hands down. Worst park, Universal Studios...very lame.

Of course at the time we were sans children so we just kept in front of the advancing horde and things went pretty well. It's amazing how much better the park experience is if you can plan to do the opposite of what the throng wants to do. For example, we decided we really didn't need to see the parade during the afternoon at Disneyworld so we just stayed the hell away from that area. Rides were almost empty in other places. We did stay for the night time parade and fireworks, but by that time some of the munchkins had left for bedtime.

I'll go back to Orlando with the kids, maybe in a couple years.

I went to Disneyworld in June. It was very nice. An escape for me an the family from the kinds of sketchy people you see at lower priced theme parks with roller coasters with wiating lines covered in grafitti and bangers carrying around their stuffed prizes.

Also, all the employees spoke english and were actually delighted to deal with you.

I can avoid ugly (I'm not bedding them) and outrun fatties.

(there was one family where the teenage boy was wearing a "Trojan Condoms" shirt....didn't he have *anything* else to wear?
