Using the S-Video out on my laptop???

Is there some trick to this or what? I hooked up my laptop (via the S-video out) to my plasma and it doesn't find a signal. I went into the "display" section in control panel and activated the second monitor optiona as well. What am I missing here? Do I have to set the second monitor as default?

I have to hit the FN F8 key to get my HDMI cable to work.
