OK Tabby, here you go!

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and meeeeeee!

Thanks for raising an interesting discussion Tabbsy. My experience with this area is unusual. Periodically, I'll go through a bit of a funk ,which is caused by long term unresolved issues. My response is always that I should see a psychologist about this because it just keeps recurring. Well always after sleep, I wake up optimistic again, all full of plans to "fix it'. I then say to myself that I don't need a psychologist, let alone medication-so on I go.
However, my issues are still there, sort of waiting for me to feel poorly again and out they come. Maybe my dogged self reliance is what is hindering me and in a way I do know the answers, but can't seem to manifest them. Sometimes I do feel like the Grinch when after his attempts to wreck Christmas fails,he says to his dog:' Max get me my sedatives!', but I'm trying to resist going down that pathway. Thanks again for all your heart felt experiences.

Taking medication for depression/anxiety is not a cop out. It can be an invaluable strategy in dealing with a difficult problem.

The following is a short list of treatments/strategies that have been proven NOT to work;

1) Psychotherapy
2) "Suck it up"
3) Wait it out
4) Alcohol

No one should be discouraged from seeking help for these difficult problems.

Nice post, echo'ed what I wanted to post.

I have an internal balance that has served me well, others close to me do not. This thread had been enlightening.

Thanks, Mike, for your initial honesty.

"I have an internal balance that has served me well"

I hadn't thought of it that way, maybe those who know me could provide comfirmation. I'm sure depression is real but I'm not sorry for not having experienced it. My highs may not be very high but my lows are not low at all.

Moses I know Psychothearpy works for better or worse and as imperfect as it maybe, it does good in the world and helps alleviate suffering. It helps people understand themselves and to get a clearer understanding of situation they are in. U might say Thearpy is a help U to help yourself service. U get out what U put in, obviousily if U have a physical limitation it isn't going to be much more help than you understanding the nature of the limitation. However even that knowledge alone can be of great relief to an indivdual. It offers help where there might otherwise be none.

If U didn't put in the effort to study for the profession (desire) your in and receive the Training (help from knowlegable people) from professionals you'd be sleeping in a car in Oakland.

OK fk thearpy...it is only a vehicle a tool to help U achieve some self understanding. Maybe its like using Rapid Grow in your garden.. There are other ways to the same end and I'm more about the ends than the means anyway. Its the results that I want.

And do U think that it was a casual accident, or whim who I picked for those 3 threads.

And just WHY did you pick those three when, if you were personally concerned there are private messages?

I think that is a valid question.

As I have pointed out before, Tabby only feels self important when he denigrates others. Give the sick puppy a worm pill. NEVER a suppository...he enjoys those.

Money I have always given U serious consideration and thought to your queries and comments.

It has to do with me not having anything to hide, it has to do with the confidence I have in my thoughts before the world. How willing am I to risk myself.

Also I am not purseing any really delicate or intimate behavior that a private reply would absolutely be appropriate for. All the information has allready been made public allready.

Why those 3...look at the commonality of the three..Extremely bright, well educated, successfull at what they do, all have listened and taken to heart or given thought to what I have said before. All have the humility to ask for help or opinions when they need it. I could be wrong though?

Some things people share here are shared in a moment of frustration, need, or worse, and I would posit that there are posts the individual wishes he or she could take back, but Pandora has opened the feared box. In these cases where a sensitive issue has been laid bare, I prefer to simply "let it lie".

Just my modus opporendi.

The question U didn't ask Money is why now?

I've been sick, and when I get sick I feel like I have my back against the wall and I become much more pointed in my thinking. That I don't have the extra energy in the bank to be anything other than direct. In other words give it to them up the a$$ without the foreplay of a reach around.

I know you have mentioned your illness, and I pray hat things are improving. Being ill is a very scary situation; one most people do fear because they have no control over the situation, and the outcome is unclear. At those times, we generally like to have someone to "share the pain", so to speak, whether it is a friend, a cleric or a physician. Sometimes it helps to find a support group if one is available. When I was married to the former wife 20 yrs ago as described earlier, I found just such a group, and the most important thing I learned was I was not alone. This gives the individual an opportunity for a while to feel that they are not all by themselves, and even for a while, forget their troubles and maybe even find reason to laugh or at least smile.

Still, it doesn't take away from the fact there are those who would rather not talk about their situation and in those cases the prudent action is to wait for them to approach you, not the other way around.

"Love is like a butterfly. Chase it and it will always elude you. But sit very still and it will come and alight on your shoulder".

Tommorow I will probably regret saying as much about myself as I did today. But that has happenened before and I have lived and prospered in spite of it.

That is a dilemma which I have wrestled with. Mother would say I am cruel and ego driven.

Its ironic...Nostatus gave me an immediate answer, knows exactly what I am talking about and is ultimately an ally. Moses acted very delibrately, went away thought about it and came back with an answer the next day. He feels compassion and empathy, has seen things that defy the empirical but doesn't use his deductive reasoning on the causality. Lubby surprised me by not answering, Lubby is a man who loves his son and LISTENS and TAKES to heart the truths that this child has to say.

My advice to Lubby is not to listen to a gdamed thing I have to say anymore, but go read what Nostatus has said.

I havn't had a cold or the flu in at least 8 years. This one has just dragged on and on, rather than put me down in bed ahh dying. At one point I realized that if I were 20 or 25 years older I would be in serious trouble. The will to live can errode with the onslought of an illness, but it came to the point that I realized I ain't gonin easy.

I also want to say it is time for me to take my hands off, in a pitifull self defense my diatribe this afternoon was after Moses pissed me off..there was a point where I saw red and wanted to tell him what an ignorant git he is..he is like Prometheus bound by chain to the block of cement known as empiricism.. Pfft give me a break.. So to make it clear this was about Moses and not Lubby
