Pat's gonna love this
Well, it just came out today that civilians are now subject to the UCMJ in times of crisis(yes, in the US too, and yes, it's already been passed), and so are reporters.
As an added bonus it also just came out today that the feds can now open ANY piece of 1st class mail without a warrant. The democrats wanted to save us from the Repubs....here's their chance, this is effing outrageous. ![]() |

Uniform Code of Military Justice.
It's the military's criminal justice system. You want NOTHING to do with it, i assure you. |

Heard that one today too. Pretty ridiculous.
Then again, given that USPS can barely get the ***** to where it's supposed to go in the first place, can barely keep its employees from shooting up the joint 'cause they hate it so bad and that they seem unmotivated to keep them lines moving at any speed faster than glacial creep, I would't bet they'll be all that efficient at posing that great a threat to us.

You OK with being subject to the UCMJ during "times of crisis" too? (not that it matters, because now it appears that we all are)

I'm just sitting here waiting for fint and reardon to jump in and tell us how it's all the fault of the liberals, and that anyone who's against being subjected to the UCMJ is a traitor/terrorist/democrat...

M21, I think the thing that bothers me the most is that I'm not surprised. These clowns have been undermining the basic principles of this country since they took office. No matter how much they spout "freedom" and "democracy" the attitude is that the people are here merely to serve the state. There's a term for that.
Reminds me of a phrase in Atlas Shrugged. Wish I could recall who said "We must control people in order to force them to be free."

This has been going on for a lot longer than these particular idiots have been in power.
If anything, it started with the 1936 NFA, and has gone on almost uninterrupted ever since. FDR, LBJ, RR, and even SCOTUS have snatched up rights wholesale, and now the Shrub has just outdone them all in one fell swoop. And to think i voted for this idiot. I guess that makes ME the idiot afterall... ![]() |

Little by little, freedom and liberty are dying. Our government has decided that protecting us from ourselves is priority #1.

Want a bit of irony? The first war we fought to obtain freedom was against another tyrant named George.

And of course your mail is no longer sacrosanct.
I would warn the extreme right wing believers to be very careful what you wish for. Same to the extreme left.

I agree that this has been going on for alot longer than the Bush crowd has been in office.
Gore Vidal speaks of a National Security State rising in 1948 with the advent of the Cold War. The justification is that with Nuclear weapons being as terrible as they are National Security thrumps Constitiional Rights. The common good over the rights of the indivdual.. So long as I am the one who gets to say who the Badguy is, I have no problem with any of this... Hail to Caesar....I mean to the Chief

None other than Fox news has reported that the gov't can (with a warrant they say) turn on your cell-phone in your pocket, and listen to everything you are saying, even if the phone is off.
Outlandish sounding for sure, but the feds just used that l'il trick to take down some organized crime types not too long ago, which is really the only reason this tid-bit of info came out. Short of taking the battery out of the phone, the mic can be on and the phone transmitting, and you would never even know it. Or so it's claimed. Of course if you're doing nothing wrong....you've nothing to fear, right? |
