Impresive isn't the word. Stunning is more like it. I've stood on the pit wall @ the old Riverside raceway, i've stood @ flag stations @ the Long Beach
gp, but i've never seen anything like it before or after. My understanding
of what was possible within the laws of physics changed that night.

Chris B.
Amen brother to everthing you wrote. And you should also know that
you were an inspiration to my later generation just like Charly Woit was
to you and your peers.

Peace, Flatspot

FLATSPOT, I too was in awe each and evey time I got to see Charlie make a 'run'. I agree, that car defied the laws of physics.
As when he changed gears going uphill into the sweeper from Carl's turn.. It simply disappeared and reappeared 20 feet up the road. I still don't know how he made that car handle the bumps and stick like it did.

I too have been in racing since the 70's and have seen many
an awe inspiring car/driver. Such as Donahue's 930/10 fly up the esses at Riverside. Or the first time the Audi LMP cars silently attack Sears Point Raceway. And I've got to tell you seeing Charlie make a run in that car was a sight to behold.

Well, everything you pointed out in your last 2 posts is certainly poignant. We might as all well get in a bus or motorhome and go sightseeing.

Tajunga or Glendora Mtn. Road anyone? :D

But wait, there's more. I suppose the Harley riders out and about near the Rock Store might well be doing the speed limit given the stupendous handling characteristics of that breed of bike. But will they be quiet while doing so? Hell no.

The harleys and loud vehicles are a big part of the problem; the residents get really lit up when their scotch and sodas shake in their hands while watching re runs of oprah

I have the VCR tape from Pratt Coles Nevada Silver State winning
Testarosa. About 1/2 hour at 180 MPH. Parts of it was used in the organizers promo tape. This is unedited. Passes Kelly Seavers like he's tied to a post.

--------------------------------------------------------------
That sounds like a good video. Would you like to convert it to DVD format? Parts of it could be posted to this thread if desired.

I intend to post more of my video from the old days and the new.
There is some interesting stuff to be seen that I think all would enjoy.

I worked for Kelly and attended a couple of the challenges untill the car was lost. Sure would love to have a copy of it.

Yes, thank you. Infact, KevinP73 asked for a copy too. He worked for Kelly and I'm afraid I don't have much experience in converting anything to anything (money & relationships included).

Sounds Perfect to me. See you all there!!

OK, this is not Mul, but I suspect that it will be a similar sensation riding in some of the REALLY fast cars.

Ditto on that one. Thanks for the bait Victor. With your assistance, we will fix what's wrong with The Mulholland Experience to make it a complete historical document that includes all CRE and MRA info. The second edition will be liked by all, except maybe the Mulholland residents and law enforcement. Can't please everybody.

Woah! Good god this is fast. They really have to be thinking 2, 3, or even 4 turns ahead at that speed. They must really be processing that information as if it is in slow motion to drive well at those speeds. I have always noticed when racing faster and faster cars, that if it seems like things are happening too fast, then you are going too fast for your abilities at the time. Slow down and grow into it. When you are really into the sweet spot, it everything seems normal speed even though you are going fast. I just could not imagine processing information that fast.

Charley must have lived in the sweet spot all the time.

After seeing t6dpilot's last post I had to look at the video of that awesome hillclimb. What a friggin blast. That looks like soooo much fun, and talk about quick shifting..there's nothing like some of that modern technology. It looks to me like any Superbike would be blown to dust by that car. It accellerates like a bat out of you know where and sticks likes it has new racing tires installed. Great video.
Thanks for pointing it out again.

Its way to quiet around here. Reminds me of Tuesdays on Mulholland 25 years ago.

I little humor to get the fire going.

The guy between the Ferrari mechanic and the BMW mechanic on the right row has a broken rear sway bar. The guy on the tail end of the left row is plotting to pass everyone on the first turn (I saw him do that at Portland one time. DFL to first and back to DFL by the second turn! I have the ESPN video archived somewhere). The cop on the left row's father-in-law had a body shop in Burbank where I got my Boss 302 repaired once.

Reno Cup Race in Portland, yer co-driver noticed that my helmet strap was not fastened. So he waited until turn 9 to signal me that fact. I got it fastened before the start/finish line, much to his surprise (and mine).

Some of us got pretty good at making bootleg knock off "tamper proof" engine seals that were installed by the sanctioning bodies.

Mark, we need to get a few of us together for a "cheater" BS session, now that it's history and we can talk about the dirty tricks.

Oh, we never would mention current "clandestine" covert engineering. Some stories from Firehawk, Escort Endurance, IMSA RS and GT are sooo very creative, though.

I remember an IMSA tech inspector Mr Billy Cook, a good old boy finding something in my car that wasn't exactly per the rules. "Hey, thats really nice. Very creative! Change that or hide it so nobody can see it and I won't have to make you remove it. Y'all have a fun weekend!".
