Jeremy- the shot was taken on Bowmont, about 100 yards east of Grandstands. Cory wanted the pic to show the hillsides. And with grandstands being all dirt with a mound blocking the view, our usual hangout was the chosen spot for the group pic
HPV- yep- that was Craig's Capri in the pic that eventually passed thru you, and then to my ex girlfriend. The Recaro Porsche sport seat ended up in my second red mini - still around with one of our friends That was a real Challenger T/A in bright orange with white vinyl top. He put some Konis on it, lowered it a little, Widened stock steel rims- it was bad-a$$. He sold it a little while later for around $3500 so he could finish school |
Honestly thinking about doing a Challenger or Cuda with some wide 17's good suspension and a viper motor or aluminum big block with a 6 spd in it.....
I love the old Mopars... Move Over Plymouth Approaching Rapidly |

Expensive but very tasty ! I presume you've seen the red Charger that was set up this way? |
I think I have seen a few pics of it, wasn't it in Hot Rod or Car Craft recently.....
Can't be more expensive than this Porsche thing I have become addicted to......http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif |

I have done it but with my 69 RS Z ... 427 SB pump gas motor makes over 500 ft lbs of TQ and almost 600 HP . TKO 600 , 4 wheel discs , 17" American Racing TT II's has koni's but am just now installing all the DSE suspension and will drop the car a few inches . Very fun to drive plus people love the car.. old school styling that most everyone likes. I would love to do a 70 Cuda too. In my opinion the 69 Camaro and 70 Cuda are two of the best looking muscle cars ever built.

Here's another couple pics of the original Mulholland RSR in question. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1169515510.jpg |
The Under Grand Prix Muholland Drive groupe some how came to meet and became life long friends. I was living in Granada Hills reading Road
& Track to this day its the best road racing magazine on this planet. As a 13 year old kid Who loved Road Racing F1 Lemans etc. I read that Carrol Shelby,Phil Hill, Ricthie Ginther, Bob Bondurant,Parnelli Jones all cut their teeth on Muholland Drive. So I had to get there, Thats when all of us met we were all same age, we bonded, like the Monterey Pop Festival 1966 I was there just as significant. I worked as a corner flag man at Riverside Raceway, Laguna Seca and enjoyed the Can Am Mc alaren domince get trounced by Mark Donahue/Roger Penske Porsche made history Period ! The picture of the masked youths on Muholland I recognize all the usual suspects. When we were up on Muhollannd we met race legends like Dan Gurney,Pete Brock,Parneli, and so many more... Its seems time has come for a book to compile the tall true tales that conspired. I'm certain it will be a special part of Road Racing History. HPV, Thousand Oaks,Ca |
Lokking foward to future Muholland Book. HPV

Hi Henry! I never knew you were a part of the old Mulholland crowd. What did you run?

Q: What did you run? A: Away Q: What did you run? A: My mouth Q: What did you run? A: A Ford Capri. But the Fu**er Only Rolled Downhill. :D :D :p Just joshin' ya, Henry. -Marco |
Henry made his mark with a light yellow 510 that he "BRE"-ed out . Later he got a avocado green 510 that got a LOT of SSS tricks- that car was a real beauty! He sold it and made money on it - this in the time when you were lucky to get 50 cents on the dollar with modified cars.
During the beginning of the gas crisis, some guy came up to the Hill with his recently aquired Boss 429 that he bought for $2500 ! |
Wow!
Check out this Pelican thread started by Chris Banning in 2005 about writing the book. http://www.pelicanbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=254759&highlight=mulhol land+drive Dave, You tell even more great stories in here! Some cool pics as well. A better pic of Banning's Porsche and a couple of his SCCA prep Camaro. derek |

Dave, did Crazy Ed from Ed's Place have anything to do with those 510s? |
Victor's Getting Old
Well, your right, that was Tommy in the Lady's garage. Funny I don't remember that episode as apparently the Blue bug was after his '64 Chrysler New Port Mulholland car (with the rectangular steering wheel) which I did ride in (I was the only one who would, I guess). Anyway, the rest of the story is that while one cop was arresting Tommy, another was arresting some other hapless fellow who happen to be unlucky enough to be also driving a blue bug across mulholland (actually in Franklin Canyon). Once deposited in jail, Tommy was confronted by a very angry dude about being arrested falsely. Tommy offered his sympathy but never admitted anything.
ps I have the entire Hot Rod article in adobe but can't up-load that. How does one change an adobe to jped? |
Dave ,
Thanks for the 510 compliment,I had a great time with those cars, It was a great era having access to Pet Brock,John Morton,Trevor Harris,Mac Tilton these were all Carrol Shelbys Lemans crew making magic with 510s & 240 Z's . I did the same BRE Magic with a 1970 240Z .Mac Tilton designed a Harmonic balancer for $100.00 The prices to build a great 510 was $3000.00. Todays costs are so crazy. But in retrospet $3000.00 was more than a 510 sold for, New $2700.00 MSRP So in todays dollars 350Z 45k Hot Rod it $45k sounds normal its just alot more zeros. Miss the old days ! HPV |
Marco,
Are you 914/6 guy that had the misfortunate head on collision with Pat Pearson ? Apart from the yellow and green 510s I had a black 240 Z A black 69 Lotus Elan S4 Slate Grey 73 Capri and they all have the distinction of NOT going over Muholland. I can say I was riding with John Norris in his Yellow 73 Carpri just behind Unlucky Pat Pearson's Boss 302 enroute to a concert to Hollywood bowl gets 2nd head on collision just about Carls turn. 914/6 was on wrong side of road,914 much lighter at impact flipped overand down 300' canyon. By time police Tow truck etc arrived 20 minutes had passed, We all assumed 914 driver/passenger had perished,we hear Jesus Christ,Holy Hell from the bushes and turns out 914 driver/passenger car landed in tree top they were thrown out and climbed 300 ft back to ground zero. Unbelievable they survived Pat got a broken nose, Boss 302 back to body shop.20 years later I ;m at willow Springs POC TT sat night party and I'm telling this story, and the 914 driver says yes that exactly how that accident happened I was the driver ! I forgot his name but remember he was still racing a 914/6. I'd bet Dave B TRE Cup remembers he was standing next to me. Other funny Willow story same weekend I was one of event masters being in restaurant business,I arranged for Mohave Brewing to donate 30 cases of Lowenbrau Bier Free. Dave called and explained his guy wasn't able to pick up bier on fri and deadline was 3:00 fri so I left my restauraunt 1pm thousand oaks tok the 101 to 126 to 5 and to 14 to Mohave 30 miles past Willow Springs with my 1972 911S Gulf Orange 3.0 Andial twin plug I arrived in 1 hour driving very much in a hurry I managed to sqeezed 27 cases of Lowenbrau into 911, I have a picture the owner of Mohave distrubuter drove a Corvette he could not believe how I fit so many cases. I wasn't able to get to fifth gear. I still have 911S 3.0 Its Grand Prix White |
