It is a fair offer. The attitude of squeezing more out of insurance companies than they owe you is part of the reason why we all get to pay through the nose on premiums.

I alsow wanted to ask if you are aware that you may have trouble insuring the new biturbo with this company and / or others. I doubt it will go unnoticed if you give them too much trouble. ;)

I know. I haven't given them any trouble besides of course this accident.

And the whole thing about squeezing, is just a point of view. Put yourself in my shoes.

My insurance company low-balled me the first time (I don't think it was on purpose). They then sent out an appraiser and it was appraised for 1 1/2 times the original proposed amount. They paid the greater amount plus tax and prorated license. You may want to look into getting an appraiser to look at your car.

'98 C2S with low miles is a mid 50's car. 996 values don't have any relation to 993.

Hey, it's free advice, it's worth what you paid for it. ;)

Good Luck,

George

I'm glad you and your buddy are okay. Sorry about the loss on the car. Looks like it was a nice car.
There is no way that the insurance company should be comparing your 993 to a 996. They are two completely different animals. I think the first offer they gave you on the car is a fair one. One of our customers had a C4S with very low miles on it get T-boned at an intersection by an SUV. He decided to fix it. I couldn't believe it, but he did. The car actually came out pretty good.

Sounds like a roughly fair offer. You bought the car for $55K. You put $2.5K into repairs. But you also put some miles and another year on the car. They're offering to "buy it" from you for just under $55K. The amount you paid on taxes is not their problem and shouldn't be part of the equation.

Most importantly, glad you and your buddy weren't hurt.

I don't know it that's true. Insurance is there to replace the car that was wrecked. He will have to pay taxes again when he buys another one to replace it.

Glad to hear you're OK. Look at it this way, your providing good used 3.6 engines for us :)

That offer looks very reasonable.

Did you tell the insurance company (or the people showing you sympathy in this thread) that you wrecked the car because you were drunk and then ran away and hid to avoid going to jail for the DUI?

That's what you posted on your blog, right?

Mark020 04-08-2009 01:44 PM

If you say something like this link the blog or don't say it....

That's sort of cute that you would search this thread out. Am I going to have to take out a restraining order on you?

Thread starter can close a thread, if I am not mistaken. This would be one to close, I think. SmileWavy

I don't think one can close his/her own thread, but a message to the moderators will restore this thread to what it was before the cheap shot.

J11 04-08-2009 03:15 PM

It's only a cheap shot if it isn't true... drunks suck. If they're not crashing their Porsche, they're running into mine.

This is kind of wierd... This thread is a couple of years old ...

So where did you find the concrete pillar...somewhere before Polk St?
