We get Steve Jones from noon to 2PM on indie 103 every weekday.
If you think radio is bad here, you need to take a roadtrip across this great country. (Or not). Since de-regulation has allowed companies like Clear Channel to acquire large stations in every market in the U.S., there is a generic awfulness to commercial radio everywhere. One blatant example of computers playing song lists from marketing surveys would be the whole "Jack radio" crap which is CBS radio w/o DJs in every medium to large market nationwide. They figured out how to eliminate the DJs completely, who needs them when a computer spits out the songs and cheesy pre-recorded jingles? Think about it, it's 100% advertising. And no pensions or healthcare to pay for.
As for KROQ, I wouldn't know. I haven't really listened to them since the early '80s either.
