Great Gig in the Sky

Claire Torre, brilliant piece of music, brilliant improve vocal. I get chills every time I hear it.

Try watching it with the Wizard of Oz.

Or listening to it at 2:00 in the morning after a hard night out and a smokey night cap...

I love that whole album, and Wish You Were Here, too. They were both produced by Allan Parsons, and I just downloaded, for my ipod, 'IRobot' by the Allan Parsons Project. We used to listen to it over and over again back in college. If you like Pink Floyd, you must get IRobot.

IRobot. Now there's a great album I haven't listened to in a long time. I'm going to go dig it out from somewhere around here.

VH1 did a "Classic Albums" on it which was shown recently.
Really excellent program with all members of PF cooperating nicely
in the interviews. From what I recall, GGITS was taken from some instrumental music that they had previously written and contributed for some Fellini film back in the late 60s. The piece resonnated with their conscious, so they revived it for DSOTM.

It was for Antonioni's Zabriskie Point.

Well this is a coincidence. If you are in the PST, VH1 classic is showing the Classic Albums episode right now 12AM... check it out

It was "us and them" from the Antonioni film.

I was watching the VH1 episode when I posted. I've seen that one 4 times now. The Hendrix one is also excellent.

Have not managed to catch the Janis one though.

In an interview, PF said that she did it in one take, apologized profusely for wasting their time, and left.

That song is eerie and penetrating.

I agree, one of my all time favorites. Dark Side of the Moon is the soundtrack to my college days. I used to put on my full coverage earphones, put a pillow over my face for sensory deprivation, and listen to it on my 8-track player. Scared the hell out of me if anyone touched me while I was in that state.

The one on the Who, Who's Next LP was fantastic. When they threw up the tracks of the Who cutting live, it was phenomenal.

Fleetwood Mac Rumours one was Good...Elton John Madman was OK... There was one on Metallica which was excellent, Phil Collins Face Value was surprisingly good, and then they even had one on Def Leppard and actually made it interesting. Great series, it be.

Indeed. Yes, chills. Every time.

I saw a DVD of a PF performance where two ladies took turns singing that. A small white girl sang the first part, which is more harsh. She did a great job. Then, a more robust black girl took over and sang the soft part, to close the song. Anybody with even an ounce of appreciation for sonic art would be blown away.

DSOTM is, hands down, solidly on top five list of greatest albums of all time. It simply does not get old. I wonder how many times I have heard it. Boggles the mind.

You don't have to smoke Buddha to appreciate Floyd.

I've been a huge fan since the age of 9 when my big sister bought The Wall. Then I bought DSOTM. Then The Final Cut came out and I bought the tape. Wish You Were Here was the first vinyl record I ever bought.

And up to that point, I had never touched the stuff. Well... there was that one time when i was 13, but i wasn't listening to Floyd at the time.

Good times...............

BTW, my sister bought The soundtrack to the film MORE on vinyl at a swap-meet back in about 1980. I recently found it on CD. It's odd but there are some good tunes on it. I also rented the movie. It sucks, but it's interesting to see just for the time period. 1969, IIRC.
