CNN Combat Hospital.

One of the big issues with the Iraq war is, however you want to describe it, trauma medicine. I just watch CNN’s “Combat Hospital” with tears. War is not pretty. At that point it doesn’t matter soldier, civilian, man, woman and children and the service providers.

I remember discussing my grandfather’s WWI experience as an eye surgeon.

The only good that come from this carnage is an advancement in emergency medicine. We need to be aware of what all this is doing to everyone.

My grandfather came back from war to Emory University and the Grady Hospital in Atlanta with skills he would not have had otherwise. On the other side, what was the price? There is the same issue today.

WWI almost everyone died. Modern medicine returns more crippled. Sad byproduct of war.

Best,
Grady

I agree with your sentiments, I've been watchin as well......with a tear in both eyes.

Having my best friend in Afgahnistan for the last 5 years and hearing stories about what goes on, it is quite sobering.

No glory in war.

Some time ago I came across a cnn website with a list of KIA. Very sad to see all those great young people, all those hopes and aspirations stopped short. Really sobering.

Larry King had Ken Fisher on last night discussing the Fisher Houses med facilities for wounded military and their families. The new one in Texas has state of art med and psy services available as families get to live with them. Great show.

But according to some, war is noble.

Go figure.

War is quite noble when it is the last alternative to something much worse. You should be proud that braver men are willing to risk their lives for something bigger than themselves. Once fighting back (war) is considered "too difficult"...evil will have free reign.

Sounds like Churchill considered what those brave men did to be pretty noble...I know I do.

and up close...it still looks like a lot of fine, brave, young men...doing something terribly noble...despite the worst of circumstances.

it might have bene noble from Churchils standpoint, but then a gain, HE wasn't the one in the trenches now was he...

anybody who died in the trenches of WW1 died for one reason only , because big wigs had to much ego, and to little sense

they all died, from both sides, for no reason , nothign was fixed, nothing was resolved, nothing was achieved, least of all anything noble...
noble??

glory???

for king and country??

were these evil doers too?

and this guy , just 2 miles from my hometown... for what purpose was he left to rot for a year in No man's land?

I don't really feel that I need to enlighten you as you are clearly a hopeless case, but I have a good deal of experience at war...but nothing I would like to share with you.

On the contrary, dying for a righteous cause is most certainly noble....but our goal is to make the enemy die for their cause.

Just the opposite. If the Allies had let the Central Powers succeed, it would have changed Europe and the nature of governments there forever. Germany would have likely have been strong enough to take over and rule the entire continent by the 30s.

why not?? at least i would at least think you have a right to speak about war if you did actually saw action ...

i'm just making the point that i'm tired of all the sunday warriors talking about invading this , invading that, but never having fought , and are to chicken to sign up..

yet you claim you did do all that, but do not want to share??
it's not poker you know, bluffing doesn't work here... if you say A , don't be afraid to followup with B...

please, they did it in the 40'ies anyway...and Hitler used the defeat as a means to gain power... that's a fact..

so what if it would have changed Europe, woulda shoulda coulda

only result is that millions died... and they died thinking it was the war to end all wars...they died because Generals and supreme commanders just ordered men to die en masse... very noble .. veyr glorious...

That's my last career in the military, I've had the Combat Trauma Management Course, but fortunately never had to practice what you saw.

I could go on, but suffice it to say that the experience gained isn't close to worth the price paid to acquire it.

If I were to do so...it would not be on an internet blog as defense to one who spends much time denigrating soldiers and their cause. Find another's nipple to twist...you will not have mine.

The last time the US Army defended America was during the War of 1812, all the other wars were for profit and political power.

Your notion of noble causes is both immoral and unethical. For a cause to be noble it must enhance civilization and the daily lives of mankind. I know of no war that has done that.
