Anyone own a scouting camera?
I've recently discovered scouting cameras. They are used to take pictures of wildlife by using a motion sensor to trip the shutter when an animal is present. They are used by hunters alot to track game. I'm planning to get one to see what kind of critters prowl my yard at night.
If you have any suggestions or have some pics from your camera to share, I'd like to see them. Thanks. |

I don't personally have any scout cams, but my buddies dad does. I'll see if he can get me some pics; he owes me since I'm away at school and don't get to look at deer.
I think I have a hunting mag somewhere that talks about good trail cam placement. I'll see if I can dig it up for you. Remember to post pictures when you get them:-D If you need some webspace for them, just drop me an email.

I just set up a digital one for my dad. It was only $49.00 from Menards, and the pics are great! I'll try to grab some and post them.
P.S. I see you are in Charlottesville... What part? The family get-away it just outside town off of 708. -Nick

A very close friend of the family actually invented them. Seriously, if you are interested I can get his contact information and I am sure you can get any of the information from him that you would like. He lives in Athens, GA.

I bought my father one 2 years ago and he loves it. He put an automatic feeder on his property, and set the camera up nearby. Had no idea how much wildlife there was in his area until then.
Highly recommended!

I have a friend who has 2 of these cameras running on solar power with huge capture cards in them. He goes and collects the cards every 3 or 4 months. It takes him more than an hour from the road hiking to get to them. He's had them out there for over 4+ years.
I have seen the photos and they are kind of interesting to watch. I have seen the same bear I don't know how many times walk by that camera. It also seems like if you see a bear that almost always the next picture will usually be a cougar. Don't know what that means. My Bud is just waiting for that $1,000,000 Bigfoot shot. I keep telling him.....well......OK.

Small world. I used to live off of 708 on Country Lane, but now live a little east of town near the Keswick area. Would love to see the pics. Mike |
