Job help UNIX
i have been with Sun for 8 years as a service tech (sse).
kind of getting the itch to get back into sysadmin field. Back in the Whoring days, 70 hour weeks and you needed to program in 2 - 3 languages, know network security packet level debuggig, be the DBA and Design the Website all while doing sysadmin work. What are Companies looking for these days, as far as skills? What should i expect to find in a boss/company? Here on East coast.....

Your options are varied...a lot depends on the specificity of the work you want to do, as well as the company you work for. The larger places, you'll tend to be more focused, the smaller ones - more of a JOAT.
UNIX SA's I had working for me were DC based, hence did both build/install as well as maintenance. If you can troubleshoot, patch, maintain, load OS, you should be in good shape. Never saw anyone put in 70 hours, although there was off-hours and weekend work simply cause some things can only happen during production downtimes or outages. Most of the work in the past few months (in my world...) was acting as the hands for DBA's and app owners that we would not give root to. Most of the work we did was in Solaris 8/10, AIX5.2/5.3, and a tiny bit of HP/UX. Bosses are also going to run the gamut, it's a rare IT manager that's good, AND knows how to mirror a disk. YMMV.

There are jobs out there, but they'll want to you to be current and senior.
Linux is hot right now, as is SAN. The gig I just started is to help with an OpenView implementation.
