Suggest Concealed Carry Gun?
Earlier thread malfunctioned. So reposting -
One 2007 project is to get my Oregon concealed carry license. Don't have a suitable carry piece right now. Suggestions? Criteria - at least 9mm, small/light enough to carry in front pocket as well as IWB, ultra-reliable, not terribly expensive. Was thinking about Glock 26/27 or S&W J-frame.

Ixnay on the autos. You want something quick/reliable/no safety. I carry a S&W Model 442 Airweight with concealed hammer (.38 sp +P). Point, shoot. No wondering about "do I have one in the chamber?"...
They also make a .357 model (Model 340?). Not sure I'd want to fire a .357 with a 1 7/8" barrel, though... ![]() I have the waistband grip which has a small hook that rests on your belt so you can carry the gun inside your pants without a holster. As a back-up, my "car gun" is the Glock 27 with extended finger grip allowing for one additional round. ![]() Last edited by Danny_Ocean; 01-16-2007 at 09:34 PM.. |

SIG seems a bit pricey for me, unless I found a really good deal.
Gun is going to ride in pocket a lot, in pocket holster but even so. Lint, snags, maybe even a stray coin or key when I make a mistake. Don't want anything too nice. Weight seems like an issue. Am guessing will be a comfort difference between 12-13 oz and 20-27 oz, that's before ammo. Anyone know about the old S&W model 40/42 with grip safety?

Too nice? Hell and back reliability...don't think pocket lint is going to phaze it.
Rick Lee has a p239. Maybe he'll chime in. They are a bit more than a Glock or a S&W, but they are sweet tools. |

I would skip the .357. I shot the scandium frame .357 recently. It was not pleasant. Unless you have a very tight grip on the gun, it bucks up, and the trigger guard wacks your finger pretty hard. On the upside, you only have to fire it once. Anyone not dead after that first shot is running in the other direction. The fireball and concussion are pretty impressive.

btw, if price is a huge factor, you can always get the Taurus version of the gun.

It's in the instructions that the S&W lightweight .38 will become loose with powerful rounds. I tested one while it was still brand new. Sent it back and cost me zero. It started getting noticably loose after around 10 rounds. It's a nice front jacket pocket or fag bag choo choo train gun.

a bud used a 2" 357 Python for tunnel work yrs ago. He didn't like it and he was very strong guy. It quickly became just another toy at work. Windows would rattle when he was timing his breathing at workouts.

For the front pocket consider a Kahr PM9 or a Walther PPK/S. I have one of the latter and it works great super reliable and accurate. Thinking of getting one of the former.

Yes, it is had to miss with that short barrel and buckshot...but it will buck a bit. It pays to use both hands.
