Hey PWD72s, Remember Dewey defeats Truman? Hope you didn't turn off the game to soon.

JeremyD 01-22-2007 04:48 AM

That was a great game - Paul if you missed the 3rd quarter you missed a slugfest - I only hope the superbowl is this close - wow =

}{arlequin 01-22-2007 05:58 AM

this *was* the superbowl. good game but i'm disappointed.

m21sniper 01-22-2007 09:02 AM

You know when the game was 21-3 certain posters here were already sitting at home counting themselves a fourth SB trophy.

Except um, whoops.

Up 21-3 with the "genius monk" and Tom Brady, and they CHOKED, allowing the biggest comeback of all time in a title game. Butt that's ok, that's what happens when the inferior team advances on a fluke play. (SD would've easily beaten this Colts team IMO.)

But wait, certain foks here do not believe in luck or chokes, so obviously the Colts are just SUPERIOR to the mighty Patriots...shame the interception/fumble play from last week ended up with an interception/celebration play this week, eh? Luck is that way, a fickle biitch is she.

Hehhehehehe. ;)

As far as the Superbowl the Bears just shut down the #1 attack in the NFL, an attack even more diverse and dangerous than the Colts. I do not expect any sort of easy game for either team in the SB. Especially considering the Colts defense sucks(they did give up 34 pts to a team with virtually no running game yesterday) :D

PorschePilot 01-22-2007 09:20 AM

This was by far the best game of the playoffs.

The Pats receivers lost the game for Brady, who is still the best playoff QB out there.

Coach to Manning at half time...Payton, you better find a way to win or clean out your locker.

Having 2 teams in the Superbowl who haven't been there is decades is good for NFL fans, gives them hope that their team will get there.....eventually.

on-ramp 01-22-2007 09:37 AM

Pats defense lost the game... too many Manning drives for TDs in the second half. It was painful to watch.. these types of games is what Defensive coordinators get fired over.

The Patriots offense played well, scoring 34 points.

a blown 21-3 lead had DOOMSDAY written all over it.

pwd72s 01-22-2007 09:46 AM

That's what I did...when it was 21-3, not the half yet, I figured it was over. So, left the game, went to another room to write a snail mail letter to a friend. Then I got back just in time to see it become a tie game. So, guess I caught some of the exciting parts. Paper this morning said it was a record for championship game comebacks.

targa911S 01-22-2007 09:48 AM

I'm glad Tony has a shot at a superbowl ring. He got SO screwed in Tampa by the Galzers/ Bucs. Go Tony!

JeremyD 01-22-2007 10:00 AM

I agree - go Tony!

lendaddy 01-22-2007 10:06 AM

On the upshot, the Pats needn't worry about a lack of respect anymore. :)

I was not comfortable at 21-3. Manning and the Colts were always capable of putting up a lot of points fast.
To say the Pats choked doesn't give the Colts enough credit - why do you even watch football if you don't respect any of the teams anyway ?
Still not getting the luck thing - Colts DESERVED to win that game.

Seeing how no dome team has won in cold weather forever the and the Saints were HORRIBLE , hard to say how good Da Bears really are.
Patriots would beat them. Hell San Diego would even have a chance (with a little luck :p )

Porsche-O-Phile 01-22-2007 10:50 AM

Patriots can't constantly rely on their defense to be able to stay on the field so long, especially when they need to constantly run deep route coverage against a QB that loves to take shots down the field. It wears 'em down. 'specially after a game like S.D. a week ago. They looked tired and it got the best of 'em. Three red zone TDs? Very uncharacteristic. Possession time killed them in the 3rd & 4th quarters and Brady's 3-and-outs didn't help matters any in giving the D a rest.

That said, while the defense being on the field too much certainly killed them, the stupid penalties were a factor too. 12 guys in the huddle?!?! You gotta be *****ting me. They don't make that bonehead mistake, they get their first down, end up with a TD or at least another FG and it's a completely different game. Same with the call down at the 5-yard-line. Difference between a goal-line stand and FG for Indy versus a TD (made by their linebacker, no less). Overall a pretty clean game, but when you're that closely matched, one or two bonehead moves like that are a death sentence - and they were. ANY of those penalties going the other way could easily have made the difference, and likely would have.

The obvious game-winner was the final pick-off. If Brady makes that completion (or even if he doesn't and it's an incomplete pass), I guarantee they'd have gotten in the end zone and we'd be looking at Patriots/Bears in XLI in wake of yet another Brady "hurry up" victory. He went 50+ yards in 20 seconds. The last 25-or-so should have been the easy part, especially with time outs remaining. Gotta' hand it to the Colts' D on that one. That absolutely was the game winner and Brady will/should be kicking himself in the ass for that one all winter.

Doubt you'll ever see that mistake made again by him though. . .

JCF 01-22-2007 11:13 AM

No way can it be said the Patriots gave up - they fought to the end.
That was a great game.
The Colts clearly did wear them down - and it is being exhausted and under intense pressure that leads to a mistake like 12 men on the field (That was the killer) and dropped balls and etc.
Pats are human like the rest - that's what makes the games worth watching.
And playoff games the most interesting.

tabs 01-22-2007 12:26 PM

Both those teams were evenly matched, it was a shoot out and it was more a function of which one was ahead when time ran out. If U asked who played better I would say the Colts had the edge, simply they dominated the 2nd half more strongly than the Pats did the 1st half.

89911 01-22-2007 12:46 PM

I said in the Charger game, the Pat's defense is looking old and slow. Luck and being ahead can only keep you in the game for so long. When they finally needed to make a stop, their tank was empty.

911teo 01-22-2007 12:52 PM

I think the Colts are a better team. As the Chargers were a better team. The Pats are fantastic under pressure and it looked like they could pull it out again.
I think in the 1st half PM and the Colts were playing against themselves and old ghosts. Eventually the Pats D ran out of steam.
The Colts are going to make a better SB than the Pats ever were.

Still I'd take the Bears and 7 points.

Sonic dB 01-22-2007 03:31 PM

Finally one of the Pats personel decisions backfired on them.
They have been getting by on Brady with crap receivers for 6 years now.... and it finally caught up with them. Reche Caldwell
stunk yesterday. Had he caught that ball on the 10, he was uncoverred and would have walked in. There was 4 points lost...

So will the Pats finally spend some money on the WR position in the offseason. I know that Brady hopes so. Deion Branch was overpriced totally (14 career TDs coming into this season)...but they let David Givens go too.

Im not talking "TO" but they have to upgrade that position somehow... they let the rest of the team down with that stupid personel decision.

strupgolf 01-22-2007 04:58 PM

Now, what was said about a good gameplan by the Pat's. Go Colts, ah, go Bears, Colts, Bears. I need a Colts shirt and a Bears hat. Live in Indiana, raised in Chicago. Man it was a great game and I'm just glad for the winner.

Bro, i watched my Eagles lose to your team in 2004 because McNabb felt like he needed to keep throwing interceptions instead of completions to the WIDE OPEN Eagles recievers in the NE secondary, so i know how you feel x10...dont feel too bad... :(

Brady had made the EXACT SAME mistake just the week before. He didn't seem to learn from his lucky break.

Two games in a row, with the game on the line in money time, and Brady threw what were essentially game sealing picks.

Reminded me of watching McNabb... :(

As far as mistakes and penalties changing a game, thats any game bro. If B.Westbrook doesn't drop 4 key passes in the Saints game(including an easy 1st down on the key drive at the end, and a sure TD pass on another) the Eagles wouldve been playing in Chicago this week, and not the Saints.

Them's the breaks.
