Poor Stupid Dead Bastard

A driver on one of our TV shows decided to try and jump his mountain bike off of our loading dock and over a 3 yard dumpster for kicks. Spur of the moment thing. The front wheel cleared the dumpster, but the back one got caught and he was thrown into the pavement (no helmet). Crushed his skull and he died while in convulsions just at the paramedics arrived. 30 years old, married with 2 year old and wife six months pregnant. I swear

jeez now what does she do? he's a dope but she has to go on somehow.

slakjaw 01-23-2007 03:01 PM

Did you see this happen?

Joeaksa 01-23-2007 03:13 PM

Child in a mans body. Sorry to hear this only for his wife and child's sake...

Porsche-O-Phile 01-23-2007 03:19 PM

Most loading docks are about 4'-0" above grade or so - starting from that height plus the elevation of your head above that puts your noggin at about 7'-0" or so above the grade. Even if he had been wearing a helmet, from that height I bet he'd have still been jacked up pretty good. Maybe it would have saved his life, but no guarantee. That's a pretty far distance to fall.

Sad to hear.

Actually his head was about 9 feet off the lower grade. No I wasn't there, I was off the Lot at the time it happened. OSHA investigates as a workplace accident, even though it really wasn't work-related, and it wasn't an "Accident". I think it was a "Hold my Red Bull and watch this" kind of moment.

It's amazing how many stupid thing we (men) do get away with. It's tough going from teenager to adult with children. I'm pushing 40 and I still race karts at over 100mph, of course I wear a helmet.

slakjaw 01-23-2007 03:37 PM

I am not going to call the guy stupid or childish.

Here one second, gone the next.

it could happpen to any of us.

Man when you have kids you really have to think about what is going to happen to them before you pull a stunt like that. Sad. I feel bad for his wife and kids. The dude was definitly not thinking.

This is why women live longer than men.

That is why Neanderthals are extinct.

Thats really sad I feel bad for his family. Was he a stunt driver?

A guy worked for me for a while and I was sure he would be dead by now.

He dropped a sportbike at 90 MPH with nothing on but a helmet, tank top, baggies and sneakers. 3rd degree burns over 60% of his body.

He jumped from a bridge from 60' in the air to the water, in the dark. He face planted and knock himself out, his friend had to find him in the dark water and pull him out before he drowned.

In Costa Rica he went back stage with the dancers and put on a sling shot and danced the brass pole. After his "show" the dancers tried to rape him backstage. He was sure he was contracting Aids or some STD right then and there. He was able to break free from them and get away.

Yup he should be dead.

Did that happen at Disney studios or Warner Bros?

Be glad you didn't see it. The posturing and convulsions of a dying head trauma victim are haunting.

God speed to him, and condolences for his family.

I work for a company that builds some of the finnest Mtb's on the planet.

I loan out alot of bikes....but the big hit bikes are not handed out.

Racerbvd 01-23-2007 07:55 PM

Wow, I'm 41, and I still jump around on my BMX bike:eek:
Could just as easily been me.

Hugh R 01-23-2007 08:10 PM

Happened at Disney, he was just a local Teamster van driver. He was riding a pedal mountain bike, not a motorcycle. Yeah, its probably wrong to call him stupid, but well....what can I say.

JeremyD 01-24-2007 06:05 AM

I should be dead from all the stunts I have pulled when I was younger. Now I just drive on the track at 140mph

Exactly.

If his wheel didnt clip the dumpster, none of us would even know the guy existed at all.

At least now he's famous...
