One thing interesting since dating again, mostly meeting people online, is the difference between the electronic and physical personas. I'm actually slowly working on a book that will have this topic as a chapter, but I've found a couple of things working from match.com as a meeting place:

some women are boring just from their profiles. It is often hard to figure out who/where to take a chance

some have great profiles but can't email to save their lives

some can email great but you get them on the phone and there is nothing there

some are great on email, phone, im, etc. But when you meet in person there is just nothing there

the ultra rare occurance is that you get to the in-person part and the physical matches up with the virtual. Even then there might not necessarily be a spark, but at least its in the ball park.

And beware photos that are distant/fuzzy/only show face and parts. Turns out some people's definition of "athletic and toned" is a bit variable...

I met a Navy Doctor on Match in 2002. Name: misplaced belle. She was from Alabama, but now living in Socal. She related a story of one guy she met on-line. He lived in Kansas. They travelled back and forth for a year for the relationship. Finally, he was going to move to Socal. She went to Kansas and they packed his stuff up in a truck and towed his car.

They made it to Las Vegas and decided to spend a few days on the strip. Somewhere along the line, she said something like, "Hey, we're here, we're adults, we're in love. Let's just get married." Within 24 hours, she flew back to San Diego and he had turned around and was driving back to Kansas.

I am not sure who was the problem...

I had my share of women who weren't athletic...I had a flake not show up after I drove to Santa Monica to meet her for brunch. She claimed it was my fault for not "checking in" 24 hours in advance. I guess having a time, a place and a date isn't suffcient to guarantee a date. We did date a few times after that (she wanted to prove she wasn't a flake).

I had one who declared herself a non-smoker, then smoke...(This is a single criteria rejection - non smokers only).

I had a PHD Chemist who had a "face shot only" and turned out to be a bit of a porker. She did have the biggest boobs I've ever played with. She also had 6 cats and her place smelled like a litter box.

Ever date someone, split up, then meet later on-line? Yep, the crazy one.

While in college I worked 2nd shift at a hotel front desk. From time to time as our hotel would fill I would call around to other hotels in the area. I got to talking to this one girl at another hotel and she sounded really cute. We made plans to meet at a local beach the next morning and have a day of it then go to work. On the phone she was funny, sweet and a little flirty.

We met in the parking ot the next day. She was cute as a button, maybe 5 foot tall, long dark hair and light green eyes. She had a tan and freckles on her face shoulders. She was a size 4 with a little gymnists body, nicely shaped and wore a 2 piece very nicley. We had a great day and ended up hooking up the following day as well. We had 'relations' in broad daylight in the ocean out of sight from the general population. She was my first experience with a girl who shaved all. One problem we quickly discovered after the second week we were together - we both knew each others significant others and we didn't have the ballz to break up with either. We hooked up from time to time over the summer when we could but it wasn't the same as it was when we didn't have the truth to deal with. I wonder where she is now...

I dated a girl who I later found out was really into guns. One day we went shopping and she bought the "Heat" DVD. She said it was favorite movie because she owned every gun they used in it!!!!!!!. Yes, she had an FFL and Class III stamps. Unreal.

Oh, and the other day I was talking to a client and he gave me his email address. The domain was familiar. Turns out he works with the girl above. Small world.

She was more of a FB or FWB. The one I sort of left her for was a doctor who introduced me to her boss who owns 15 Ferraris and about 10 911's. Haven't heard from her in years, but her old boss and I still hang out. That was a great catch.
