I had the AMG into the turn....then

The MUTHER FLETCHER CUT ME OFF!!!!!
I have'nt had an experience like this before
And I'm not one to go hot rodding around on the street but that prick really pissed me off.
My wife and I were coming back from a social gathering with friends late the other night. We are 100 yards from a stop light. After the stop light is the two lane on ramp to the freeway. When the above mentioned P.O.S. pulls right in front of me at the red light.
On the green light he jumps on it and takes the outside lane I jump on it and take the inside. He is two car lengths ahead of me but I'm pulling him in the turn he sees this and cuts right in front of me pushing me onto the shoulder, my wife is having a screaming fit.
I calmed her down and, after a little while I thinking I'm glad she was there because there is know telling what I would have done otherwise.
I know that I'm know match for one of those cars thats putting out over 400hp on the straights, but in the turns there is no chance for him.... that I know.

dd74 01-26-2007 04:41 PM

Considering the weight of some of those MB-AMGs, if he hit you, you'd be a lot farther along than on the shoulder.

I concur. Crap like that even happens on the track. People in cars, you know...

Dan in Pasadena 01-26-2007 04:53 PM

Moke, I don't know what you're driving or how it is set up...and you didn't say which AMG this POS was driving, but my girlfriend had an '03 SL55 AMG up til a year ago. Holy Mother of God, that car was fast. 493HP and I'm not sure of the torque stats, I think the same number or more.

Here it is/was:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1169862688.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1169862717.jpg

I am not a good enough driver to maximize the ability of a car that strong, but I can tell you for certain it is a HIGHLY capable street car. Maybe you're driving a true a track setup so you'd have a run at it with turns. It was a heavy car though...at leaqst that was my strong impression of it. Tell us more about your setup and what this dangerous Futhermucker was driving?

Shawn 357 01-26-2007 04:59 PM

There is probably a guy on an AMG forum talking about some guy driving like a $%#%#% in a 911:)

I hate when people cut you off because you are about to pass them!

RarlyL8 01-26-2007 05:05 PM

What did you expect him to do?
You are attempting to pass on the right, his lane is ending, and he is in front of you.

JCF 01-26-2007 05:07 PM

Where did it happen ?

Guys like that are dangerous. Moke said he isn't one to be street hot rodding and I'm not either, but once in awhile we all do a minute's "play" here and there - yeah, we shouldn't do it but to me what REALLY makes it dangerous is a guy like that. Cutting the other guy off is what leads to someone leaving the road and killing an innocent.

If you face off a bit a guy who is cool, is an enthusiast and just a giant ego driving a car then he knows there's nothing at stake but trying each other's car out from interest and respect. This guy was a *****.

got that right. you lost the race for the merging lanes, and you should have backed off before there was a wreck. you had to have seen it coming.

78P930 01-26-2007 06:36 PM

Sounds like a classic case of road rage fueled by a little bit of alcohol. You might want to look into that especially, if you have passengers.

hot amg, dan...wow. i'll bet you hated seeing that leave, but not the payment! ;)

Moke81 01-26-2007 07:12 PM

It was like the one above.
He was not running out of room either.
He did'nt want a twenty six year old 911 SC taking him.
-E.R. suspension 28mm rear 22mm front.
-front and rear monoball
-triangle strut brace
________
1981 SC

2.7RACER 01-26-2007 07:29 PM

I'll have to check my "Street Racing for Idiot's" Rule Book for a ruling.
Oh, that's right, there are no rules, play at your own risk.
Maybe you can call a cop for a ruling.

w21055 01-26-2007 07:46 PM

Which AMG was it? Most will drill a SC in a straight, sucks that it happened none the less. Also many folks will slap AMG on the trunk and pretend.

Uh...Moke...don't know how to break it to you but...I am familiar enough with driving that SL that there was NO way you were gonna take him in an SC. I thought you might be bringing a hot rodded 930 to the game or something. You weren't going to beat him, not on the straight and not in the turns either. At least not if he knew how to drive. That thing has (If I remember correctly) HUGE 8 piston calipers. It can drive hot so far into a curve that you (or me) couldn't follow it in. And exiting? Well, he could spot you a number of car lengths and you wouldn't come close to beating him to the next corner and certainly not in a sprint. That car - for a factory car, is a monster. No offense; I just know that car intimately.

Ryan, I didn't make the payments so I don't miss them. They were more than a few house payments I have had but man, that was a nice car. Talk about a chick magnet too. Drop the top at a signal light next to a hot chick and every one of them smiles...not that I would know or anything! :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1169876157.jpg

P.S. The SL 55 does 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds!!! I think Danny may be right!

Danny_Ocean 01-26-2007 08:38 PM

The dude in the AMG probably wasn't aware there was a race going on...

Moke81 01-26-2007 08:44 PM

Dan, you might be right he might have been toying with me but that was chicken sh_ _t anyway.

slodave 01-26-2007 08:44 PM

I had this happen once, but it involved a tow-truck. Was out in Simi Valley and not in the p-car. He was in front of me turning onto the on-ramp, but it was a long two lane ramp, he was big and slow and I tried to use the other lane to pass him. He just moved in front of me. I finally was able to skirt around him - HE should have backed off, but did not. He stopped to help some people shortly after and I decided to stop and confront. Whoops, he was bigger and uglier, but nothing happened. I grabbed the number off of his truck and called, only to be forwarded to an answering service. I never did get to report him.

Dan in Pasadena 01-26-2007 08:46 PM

Moke, He WAS toying with you, AND it was chicken. Nevertheless someone could have gotten really hurt......like a $130,000 car?

Too true. You pays your dollar, you takes your chances. That pedal between the clutch and the accel... you may find you have to use it once in awhile when things don't go your way.
Obviously he was in a 'sporting' mood when he pulled in front of you at the stoplight. You upped the ante by trying to beat him into the off-ramp. As you said "... he jumped on it" and "... I jumped on it" and " he was two car lengths ahead"... If you truly had him beat into the corner he would have taken out your rear end and you would not have had a chance to back out. Just like in the school yard, there is always someone bigger than you.

( but there are ways to fight dirty... ;) )

dd74 01-26-2007 09:01 PM

Well, per what John Walker and Rarely L8 says, I think I now get the picture. Umm...I would've backed off long before you did, especially if I had a passenger. But like someone else said, street racing has no rules.

SCHNELE 01-26-2007 09:16 PM

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! You didn't have a chance and you risked injury to yourself and your wife. Dumb, I have run my cars at Ridiculous speeds never with a passenger and never challenging another driver.

speeder 01-26-2007 10:55 PM

I love playing stop light GP w/ my F-250 4x4 diesel. I have the huge advantage in the sandbag department, (no one expects the big truck next to them to take off so quickly, so I always get a car length head start at minimum), and not one person yet has challenged me for a lane in a corner or merging. ;)

I have driven that car a few times - a luxurious rocket ship. Weighs almost 5000lbs (close) and the brakes stop it like it was a bug with brembos (only smmmooooth).
You had no chance. The foam on his latte prob didn't even jiggle.

sammyg2 01-27-2007 06:39 AM

You kinda got what you asked for. Just be thankful your driving antics didn't get you killed.

Moke81 01-27-2007 07:17 AM

Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself, like this time.
No one knows what they will do in a simular situation.

To be fair, the Mercedes guy was obviously looking for a shootout too. It's just that when you're obviously 'racing' at least one of you must have the common sense to know there is no prize for winning, only grief for not using that common sense.

Speak for yourself. There are plenty of people who know exactly "what they would do in a simular(sic) situation."

We all do dumb things once in a while. What concerns me is that you do not seem to recognize this as a dumb thing and rather think that you were standing up for yourself(?)

Maybe I'm being too harsh. How old are you?

artplumber 01-27-2007 08:07 AM

The guy cuts you off, you're mad. I'd be upset too. What's the point of the jumping on it - retaliation? Got to choose better than that (I suggest later...) But if you recognized what kind of car it was, and the guy already demonstrated his obnoxiousness, you had to know this sort of thing was going to happen.

Moke81 01-27-2007 09:33 AM

Man, tough crowd, get over it speeder, I did
I was just venting frustration
I'm still alive and well and old enough to know better.

450knotOffice 01-27-2007 09:48 AM

I have to agree with the others. I wouldn't mess with an AMG with my 996, let alone an SC. Once he had couple of car lengths on me, I would've given up the fight, but that's just me. Anyway, Moke81, you know we're a tough crowd, but we like you anyway. ;)

bigchillcar 01-27-2007 09:50 AM

wouldn't take it too personally, moke. after you've been around, posted a lot, people get to know you and probably what type of driver you are at your core..your driving attitude. some folks on here could have posted same and mostl likely nobody would have launched a single salvo..you're just not so well-know today and in general, most here discourage street racing or have known someone killed doing it..that sort of thing. i'm sure that a couple - maybe 3..4..guys on the board have done similar 'once' in their life.. ;) lol.

Moke81 01-27-2007 09:54 AM

Yup. And you should be aware that in the Porsche pecking order, your car is NOT fast. Hell, even my old 1972 beater is faster than a 911SC...assuming both cars are in stock trim. Rice boys try to egg me into street racing contantly...I just let 'em go. Young & dumb fools...what could I gain by blowing them off? IMHO, BOTH you and the Merc driver were being stupid. He knew he was faster, and you should have known.

bigchillcar 01-27-2007 10:08 AM

hey..at least no middies were mentioned. we got a little tarrrred of bein' picked on all the time! (watch out for '74's though).. ;)

Moke81 01-27-2007 10:19 AM

I can honestly say that was my first encounter where it got the better of me and I took it a step further.....lesson learned

Moke81 01-27-2007 10:23 AM

Well, mines stock except for suspension.

Paul you could have taken that AMG - your car in stock trim can do 165 - faster cause yours is a coupe. SmileWavy
