Colorado Senate bill 34 (CCW) - dang!!!

I just read this morning that Colorado passed a bill (Senate bill 34) requiring a Colorado resident to have "Colorado" CCW permit and that they will no longer recognize out of state permits.

This is just crap, one of the reasons that I got a Florida permit is that they DO NOT put your name in a Database of permit holders like Colorado does and that Florida has reciprocity with more states so that I can legally carry while traveling to races and such... Damn!!!

Now I have to go re-apply, pay more money and wait even longer to get my permit again...

Anyone know when this bill goes into affect? I can't find any info on when?

Fear not. There is a bill pending in the US Congress now to grant reciprocity between all states that have a shall-issue CCW law. I doubt it's the top priority in Congress now, but it shouldn't be too controversial, since it only deals with states that already have CCW. And badmouthing gun issues is usually a big loser for Dems.

So will this make the local "laws" concerning state issuance null and void? So my Florida permit would be Colorado legal again?

In theory, yes, it would make your FL one work. I got the Colorado one, I am not worried about my name being on a database. It just states that you have a CCW, not that you have to register anything. I want the Police Officer walking up behind me if I get pulled over to know I have a CCW, not have him see the gun on my hip / in the car / etc. and get worried.

In VA we have no registration of guns, but CCW holders' license plate numbers are tagged to their permit status. So if a cop runs someone's plates before approaching the car, he/she knows if the owner has a CCW and could be armed. It had never been an issue in the several times I've been stopped while carrying. In fact, I think it may have gotten me out of a ticket or two.

Makes perfect sense I guess.

Plus my Florida permit will still be good so the number of states that I travel through will be covered better.

What it appears to do is enforce [url=http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.articleiv.html#section1]Article IV, Section One[url] of the Constitution.
Quote:
Section 1. Full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state. And the Congress may by general laws prescribe the manner in which such acts, records, and proceedings shall be proved, and the effect thereof.
It makes the states honor their responsibilities under the Constitution.

I, as a member of a gang in LA, do not need a permit for a CCW. Boy, life is good for the bad guys, but for the others, watch your ass.

I agree, Vermont is the only state with a true Second Amendment legal Concealed Carry law.

This bill changes that, seems as though Colorado wants to control thier gun owners some more. I am not a radical owner, but this kind of stuff is silly and a waste of tax payers time and money.
