NYT is in a Quagmire!

In yet another kick in the groin of the Liberal MSM, the NYT lost $648 million in the fourth quarter of 2006 alone.

Obviously, they're in a quagmire and should immediately begin withdrawing from the newspaper business.

Perhaps the LA Times, with circulation numbers falling off the charts:

... Air America going tits up (and lying about it all the way down the drain) and Time Magazine, which has been dropping staff like a convention of impotents, should collectively admit they cannot win, their principles are wrong and out-dated and they need to begin a "responsible redeployment" of resources to more favorable jurisdictions. And there's only so much East Side real estate at the UN, so maybe France has room to absorb that much anti-American sentiment.

I wonder how that would compare to the trend away from print and into Internet or "palm" based media.

Looks like evening newspapers are taking the biggest drop.

I am willin gto bet that all printed news in on a decline.

My dad and mom came and house sitted for us last year and my dad pitched a fit because I do not get the Sunday paper delivered to my house. When I got home it was the first complaint.

I asked him why I needed it. He said for the TV guide, I responded I have Tivo and digital cable I do not need a TV guide.

Then he said I needed it for the news, I said I have the internet and can go to any news website I want and read news whenever I want to.

Then he said I need the local classifieds, again I pointed out all of that in online now.

Then he asked how was I supposed to sit on the back patio and relax and read the news. Laptop!

Read material for the throne room? Latop again!

As we all become more technology savy printed media will slowly disapear.

Stipulated that print media are in decline... but then why are these traditional Liberal outlets hemorrhaging money ... when there's plenty of money to be made online? And, they're so good at pointing out (real and imagined/fabricated) shortcomings of certain parties in government (and specifically not other parties) that you'd think, being so freaking smart, that they'd have seen this coming and adapted prior to being gutted!

I mean, really... they're really really smart. Smarter than you. Just ask them.

I'd suggest that, aside frum hubris, they're failing because what made them "great" was the simple oligopoly they ruled over from the dawn of time. They can't stand up to competition, in media, or, more importantly, in ideas. They don't have any true ideas any longer, and what they have, when put into a truly competitive environment (the intellectual jungle, if you will) is de-selected by consumers now enjoying choices.

Their crap doesn't sell like it used to ... in print or on-line ... b/c now people can buy what they want, not what they have to b/c of lack of choices.

No one says you have to listen. For years you've been told what to think by the socialists at Viacom, GE, Ted Turner and the like. I've heard the chair of PBS state in public that it is their mission to support Democrats.

The efforts to vilify Murdoch and other less leftist media figures is nothing short of hypocrisy. The majority of the media and its journalists are leftists by admission.

The greatest deceit is that which does not get reported. A lie by omission is still a lie.

Really? I don't take well to being "told what to think," regardless of the source.

Dave and Jim,

You are aware that the traditional broadcast media is owned by a very small group of media conglomerates. Right? In fact, Brian Williams got his start with NBC solely because of Jack Welch.

Ge and Viacom are two of the largest. The folks with editorial power are the socialist to whom I refer. I can sight numerous stories taht have not been reported by these companies because they do not support their left-leaning champions.

On the other hand, I wonder how much coverage NBC gave to GE's polluting of the Hudson River?

Lothar, how do you know what I read and listen to? For example, did you know I own and every now and then listen to international broadcasts on my shortware radio? They have a variety of prospectives that will never be expressed on Faux. What magazines and newspapers and websites do I read? I guess you must not know everything about me yet. Maybe B2 can help you with that.

Gives you some insight into the theta level of some of these cock-knockers after too much FOX-induced indoctrination.

Murdoch is the new Ron Hubbard, and if the real RH was alive he'd kill himself out of jealousy.

Jim,

I have absolutely no idea what you watch or listen to. My point was not directed at your personal viewing or listening habits. It was to point out how there is no broadcast or cable news that is devoid of some degree of spin and free from someone's opinion.

While that has always been the case, since the news is reported by mere mortals, the media being populated by a preponderance of leftists seems to make blatant bias acceptable because there have been few alternative media sources to reveal such bias. Now there are some successful right leaning sources and the pot starts calling the kettle black.

It is laughable that Ted Turner has the nerve to accuse Rupert Murdoch of the very same things Turner was guilty of at CNN for years. Even more laughable were Turner's comments about Murdoch's proposed purchase of the LA Dodgers. He said that Murdoch would make the team into the Fox Dodgers. Didn't Turner have something to do with a baseball team? Does anyone really care?

Let's face it, before Murdoch, there was only competition for ratings. Beyond that, the same news and the same analysis was presented on every major media source. Now Rupert Murdoch comes along and won't walk in lock-step, so let the whining begin.

The evening news used to be about news makers. Now, the news makers are being displaced by the news reporters, what they think, and how they feel.

THAT may be the funniest thing I'll read all day!

Oh, and what's this inane Fox-slamming? Which has nothing to do with the point. Quick! distract, decieve, inveigle... Fox Fox Fox!!!! Nothing to see here! Fox! "Everybody does it!!!" Fox!

blah blah blah.

I agree with DaveE's point. Strange, that. I have a little bit of experience w/ claims of corporate pollution of the Hudson, and a lot of it stayed quiet... at least the "naming names" part; perhaps to keep GE's actions from being used as an Aegis by all the "lesser" polluters.

Yep, same here. My father thought I was crazy not getting a local paper delivered to my front door daily, but I get all of my news via the "Interweb" as he calls it. Once I showed him how I do it, he started getting his news this way too. I can't tolerate the "sports fixation" thing and so I can filter out the sports BS from the "real news" which I can't do with the TV or newspaper. For two weeks last summer, the IKEA grand opening in MI was front-page news... how pathetic!
