Should I buy a Jaguar XKR?
I found this Jaguar 2002 XKR 100 at a local used car dealer.
http://www.goldenvalleyauto.com/details.html?VID=1-118l1163364153 KBB says it should be over $50,000, asking price is $26,000 and change. I am having the "buy it now fever". Can you stop me from buying a Jaguar and saving up for the 993 cab that has my name on it?

Those Jags depreciate like no car I've ever seen. It's absolutely incredible. It does seem like they are a bargain as used cars, esp. if you can get an extended warranty on it for a reasonable price.

I did a quick google search on Jaguar forums.
Here you go... http://www.jaguarforums.com/ http://forums.jag-lovers.org/ http://www.jcna.com/forums/main.php?Vref=JCNA&Vfnum=SW05 http://www.roadfly.com/jaguar/forums/ But when you are done researching, buy a 993.

Really wish you guys knew what you were talking about before harpooning Jags. What everyone knew about the cars 20 years ago means squat about the newer model cars.
The newer Jags are very reliable. I have a 2000 S-type and in 5 years of driving its had one window regulator go out and had to replace the tires at 70,000 miles. THATS IT. Nothing else has been a problem and the car drives like a dream. After Ford bought them they took care of the quality issue and the cars are reliable. Depreciation??? Tell me how much a Chevy or Ford car or pickup goes down in the first few years. I never buy a new model, instead letting the other guy take the hit and buy one 2-4 years old. MRM, the V8 had some issues the first few years and they have all been repaired or replaced. By 2000 it was a troublefree motor. After 70-80,000 sometimes you will lose a coil (it has one per cylinder) but other than that the newer engines are excellent. BTW, www.jag-lovers.com is the best forum on the net for Jags.

Thanks for the insights and suggestions. I would be interested to hear from more people who have owned modern Jags.
The car listed says it is an XKR 100, which looks like some sort of special or limited edition. Does anyone know what the difference is between the regular XKR and the 100 edition? It adds a lot to the cost on KBB, but I can't tell what it means, other than celebrating 100 years of Jaguar, or something like that.

I love the S-type. Wish I had one. Beautiful, elegant style. The interior is fantastic. The XKR is also a beautiful car. I love the way Jaguar designs it's cars.

The V8 in the S-type and XKR are the same engine BTW. Just make sure you buy one after 2000 unless its been updated by the dealership.

One on my neighbors has a new S-Type R. As we watch him pull out of his driveway and down the street, one of my friends commented; "That car looks good on him. Makes it look like he's always on his way to close a big deal, a really big deal." If it's possible for a car to have gravitas, I think the S-type does.
