Super Bears, Superbowl

The city is alive with support for the Bears. Lots of buildings are displaying orange/blue lights. Government/private signage is displaying "Go Bears" or similar words to that effect.

Today, our office is allowing us to wear jeans and our Bears jerseys/sweatshirts, etc. This is unusual because jeans are most definitely not allowed, let alone sweatshirts and the like. I think many companies downtown are doing the same. My colleague is wearing his Colts sweatshirt.

Today should be a fun day, Sunday is going to be a blast. 18 of us are going to this bar called North Beach to watch the game. 9 degrees as a high that day, cab for me!

Any other Chicagoans or Bears fans want to share their Sunday plans?

I'm going to a coworker's house to watch the game. Most people around here are Bears or Rams fans (a few Packers fans around too).

Sounds like a typical day in Philadelphia during football season.

I for one am rooting for the Bears.

although I hope Colts get embarrased for what happened with NE, I think it will be a blow-out, a big yawn of a football game.

Colts win big, 40-16

Have to agree. I'm still pissed about it. This year SHOULD have been a rematch of SB XX with some serious payback dealt out on the part of NE. I'll root for the Bears (lived in Chicago for three years) but in my heart I know the Colts are likely to thrash 'em.

Line out of Vegas was Indy -8 1/2 yesterday. With the spread increasing.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be watching the game. But for some reason the pre game hype just isn't grabbing me this year. I just haven't been paying much attention to the hooplah leading up to the game. Maybe it's the matchup? I dunno...just not excitied about this one.

Where do you see this line? The online books are showing Indy -6.5

MY VACATION STARTS SUNDAY!!!!

I'm leaving Los Angeles around noon and I have a room in Ventura as a stopover on my way up for a week in gorgeous Morro bay. By my calculations I should pull in to Ventura a little before game time and there are two pizza parlors within a few blocks one of which I dearly hope has a big screen and beer.

As for predictions... I thought it was going to be the Patriots? or the Super Chargers?

Sorry CC but I am pulling for the Colts!

Super Boring! Am I the only one here who hates football (and all sports), especially watching others play them?

It's a shame the 5thor 6th best team in the NFL gets to make it to the big dance courtesy of the NFC. A good article about what shoud be done to fix it:

3. Fixing the conference tilt
The 13-3 Ravens go from the AFC North to the NFC North, switching places with the 3-13 Lions who desperately need a change, any change. At least it will be a start. The AFC went 44-20 against the NFC this season (.688), the biggest disparity since 1979. Its playoff teams went 21-3 (.875) against the weak-sister conference.

One year after the No. 6 seed in the AFC (Pittsburgh) was a touchdown favorite against the top seed in the NFC (Seattle) in the Super Bowl, fourth-seeded Indy is favored by the same margin over the top-ranked Bears. It's not unreasonable to think Chicago would have missed the playoffs entirely if it played in the AFC. The Bears lost at New England and were blown out at home, 31-13, by the Dolphins. The combined record of Chicago's divisional opponents was 17-31 (.354) and its six non-divisional NFC opponents went 41-55 (.427). Counting divisional foes twice, the Bears' NFC opponents had a pathetic .391 winning

if you changed the conferences, 5 years from now the ravens would be awful again and the lions would get better, teams fluctuate over time

I just found out it'll be 75 to 80 degrees in L.A. So screw both the Bears and the Colts. I'm going bicycle riding instead. (Okay, maybe I'll watch a little, but not willingly...)
