Old Porsche pics

Hi!

These pictures have been on my mind for some time and since I was at my parents house this evening, I decided to go through the mass of photo albums and find them.

This was my dad's 1968 912. He bought it in the early 70's and was his daily driver until November 1983, when he picked up the Slate Metallic Blue 1984 Targa. That is my mom leaning on the head light. I guess they were either going to or coming back from Mammoth Mtn., Ca.

The '68 was totally restored right around the time my dad purchased the '84. He spent alot of money with a full strip down of the body then a repaint to white and the restored interior. Unfortunately, he never did get his investment back and the car took a long time to sell.

That would be me... We were probably on our way to a wedding or family function.

Here is the Targa today...

Glad I was able to get these out and scan them before they fade away.

Enjoy!
Dave

EDIT: My dad gave me the Targa in 2000. For a moment, he was thinking of buying another Porsche, but decided it was time to get into something a little more comfortable.

I enjoy seeing old photos like these and then reading the stories behind them. Sounds like our fathers went down a similar path.

My father purchased a 68 912 in 1971 as a daily driver (from Vasek Polak dealership) and drove it until mid to late 80's. Had its first mini-restoration around that time then went into storage for nearly 14 yrs. Came out of storage for a full restoration and my father is behind the wheel of it once again.

Circa 1972 Photos

Fully restored - with mom sitting in the passenger seat

I saw some pics and a paragraph(?) on this forum about your 912 recently and the story. It's nice that your dad still has it. My dad was never really "into" cars and therefore not many pics of his 912. He is and has been into photography though....

Im glad my father kept this car too. He lost all desire to keep this car in the mid 90's and I cant tell you how many times it almost found its way to a junk yard or sold off. I always told him to sell it to me - I want it. There are to many fond family memories that involve that little 912.

Old photos...I was visited by a friend and his son recently. Son is now mid 20's in age...I got out an old photo album, full of pics of the mid 60's, his dad & I scuba diving. Couple of girls in bikinis with us in the photo...the son pointed to one, said: "Wow...she's hot! Who was she?" Dad: "Uh...that's your mom." The expression was priceless!

I grew up in, around, and with what is now my 356. Unfortunately, the parents were not picture takers, so I don't have any pics of them when young with the car or me eihter.

The picture of the 912 with your mom leaning on the headlight is reminiscent of the print ads that Porsche were doing from that time: the skis on the back would present that the owners of Porsches participate in an active lifestyle, the smiling lady - a measure of happiness, and the car - a measure of success, all perfectly framed by a simple background. Nice!
