Flat Panel/Monitor Question
My 17 inch died. I just purchased a View Sonic 19 inch.
The new one has resolution of 1440x960 My pc under settings only allows me to go up to 1360x768 and the font is not very clear. I went down to 1280x960 on the pc and its much clearer. My question is Why does my pc only go to 1360x768? Maybe because its over 5 tears old?

Your video card does not support the higher resolutions. PC's are like Porsche's, upgrade one thing, you find you have to upgrade something else.

If you can, but sometimes the slot for your video card may also constrain your ability to upgrade.

Maybe. What make/model is your PC? Your PC probably wants an AGP (type of slot card fits in) video card. Video cards now use PCI-Express and are not compatible. It may be hard to find an AGP card that will support the monitor.

It's probably an AGP card, although sometimes video cards are incorporated onto the MB. Best bet is to find the receipt and see what it says or open it up and see if you can tell. Seems there are AGP cards that will support your resolution.

If your video is that old, how old is the rest of the hardware? If more than 2 years old then it is probably time for a complete new system and donate your old one to charity. I did that about a year ago and the ATI Rage All-In-Wonder card I have now also has HDTV outlets and a TV tuner input so I can watch Speed channel while working or run web video clips on out HDTV. My wife really hates that but they sure look better than on a small screen!
