I consulted with my wife just now regarding my position on this subject. She told me to tell that guy (Moses) what if this girl hit and killed one of his kids? Then she proceeded to tell me that when she worked at Mission Hospital (the trauma center for the area where this fatality occurred) that when a trauma involving a youth that caused injury of death to an innocent party came in, the staff and doctors were highly critical (and vocal about it) of the party that caused the incident even as they lay critically or gravely injured.

This was in the mid 80's. It's only gotten worse, IMO.

The point is that speeding or drinking does not mitigate the tragedy to this girls family.

Now, not to be a smart ass, because I'm taking this all seriously, but I'm a little confused as to what question I'm avoiding. I'm critical of the girl, whether she had anything to drink or not.

The question is whether you have ever done something that would be considered stupid in hindsight, even if you got away with it.

As for healthcare (which Moses is in BTW), we see people do things that are "stupid" all the time. Are we critical and sometimes crass? Yes. Is it the right thing to do? No. One of the things we deal with is the sheer volume of ugliness. One becomes inured, insulated and cynical. To truly share empathy with everyone who comes through the door is hugely emotionally draining. We do this stuff all the time, and become cavalier about the procedures we do and the outcomes we expect. But, and this is a big BUT, if we really thought about it, if that were my son/daughter/father/mother how would we really act/feel.

Let's not just call that luck. Let's call that responsible. And call me callous if you will, but I'm tired of young motorists that endanger the rest of us as we use the roads for our purposes.

I'm guessing you don't have much in common with the folks on this board then? I didn't bother to check if you posted in the How Fast Thread but driving fast and taking chances is nothing new.
