Did you get one of those "learn a new word each day" calendars for Christmas last year?

:D :D

Have you seen him in Dreamgirls? His best role ever. Oscar material.

Heh. I just liked the way it sounded the first time I heard it. And even pronouncing it conveys what it means.

Plus, I needed something to balance out the "sucked", style-wise.

Good dig, though! And one that I get every so often. :D

The Casino Royal opening chase WAS one of the greatest! The rest of the movie left me cold though....

The MGB Murphy drove in the movie is now on Ebay and not getting many bids: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-MGB-EDDIE-MURPHY-NORBIT-SCREEN-USED-MOVIE-CAR_W0QQitemZ110088483970QQihZ001QQcategoryZ31857Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Crash sucked.

I disagree. It was not the best film but Crash had a relevant message and sported interesting characters. Few movies today achieve that...for me anyway.

Norbit isn't even a rental movie for us. EM was great in the Shrek movies but his last live action movie that did not suck was 48 Hrs.

Moneyguy1 02-15-2007 08:23 AM

From the trailers on HiDef, "300" appears to be completely computer generated. Is that right?

Not to put too fine an edge on it, Wayne, but if the whiff chose Norbit, you've really got to examine her other choices. :D

If someone knows the answer to this question, please enlighten me: What is it about blacks* believing that dressing up as fat, loud, crass black women is funny -- whether to other blacks or to non-blacks?

*Use "African-Americans" here if you're sensitive to that kind of thing.

I'm with Thom on the "non-appearance of Eddie Murphy" theory.

Best movie of recent vintage I've seen... not sure 100%, but Casino Royale would be damned near the top. Best non-vehicular chase scene I've ever seen at the beginning of that movie, and that includes a bunch of martial-arts film chase scenes. I think the "romance" was a big oleaginous... but probably done that way so we could accept 007 as a heartless womanizer (of which character trait I completely approve) in the coming films.

+100 on everything above. big momma. momma's house. nutty professor 1-8... all that crap seems to have the same fat-people-eating-farting-and-breaking-things-when-they-sit-down-on-them jokes. how is that funny?

none of these will ever crack my rental/free-on-network-tv watching impulse. in fact, even when i'm too wasted to even *reach* for the remote i'd rather let my eyelids get heavy and fall asleep than watch those 'movies'

if my s/o picked such a film, even if it's solely for the kids' benefit, i'd completely and absolutely veto that crap. even if it cost me a week's worth of bj's...

Next time ask for a refund. They'll give ya one....

Too bad Norbert's a bomb.... Eddie Murphy has been the flavor of the month lately.

I liked the movie "Showtime" sort of... but DeNiro was pretty good.
The bit where he was tasting drugs with William Shatner was funny.

azasadny 02-16-2007 02:56 AM

I have a few critic's whose opinions I value and both of them rated "Norbit" an "F" and one used the word "crappy" in the review. My son wanted to see it and we say no way. I think Eddie Murphy is about as funny as cancer, the same as Adam Sandler. Just my opinion...

Porsche-O-Phile 02-16-2007 06:19 AM

I think the last movie I actually payed money to see at the theater was "Pirates of the Carribbean - Dead Man's Chest", which was great. Unfortunately about 99% of the crap coming out of hollywood is exactly that - crap. The "industry" folks don't care. They got your $30. It'll fund the next big turd.

Debating "Ghostrider", but even that one looks badly done, despite Nicholas Cage being in it. "300" looks like a boring one-liner "feelgood". How long can they really drag out a single concept like that?

Sorry for sounding negative, but I've got precious little respect for hollywood and "the industry". Biggest bunch of overpaid slackers in the world, IMO. With a few notable exceptions.
