Pan's Labrynth will restore your faith in movie-making Wayne. Best movie I've seen in years. Very dark and serious, and even the age old base plot is fresh and captivating to the end.

Set in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39, with Spanish actors and a Mexican director. I should be proud but I refuse myself to watch Spanish movies :) (I prefer Hollywood-style films and am proud of it)

The movie trailer should've shown you everything you needed to know to not watch this movie, Wayne. :p

Oh yeah, I agree, Thandee Newton is a babe. :D

Eddie Murphy hasn't made a good movie in ten years.

Two words: Pluto Nash.

wludavid 02-15-2007 05:53 AM

'Children Of Men' is another worth seeing. Leave the kids at home, though.

Nostril Cheese 02-15-2007 05:56 AM

Pan's Labyrinth is awesome.

Bowfinger? that movie sucked ass

CJFusco 02-15-2007 05:58 AM

I can''t even think of the last good Eddie Murphy movie. Coming to America?

wludavid 02-15-2007 06:09 AM

Bowfinger was funny. But L.A. Story was a better Steve-Martin-makes-fun-of-Hollywood movie.

Shrek and Shrek 2 were both good Eddie Murphy movies.

Sorry to off topic, but we saw Babel yesterday......Excellent

Eddie Murphy movies are fine, as long as he doesn't actually appear in them.

Anyone seen 300 yet? Debating whether to see it this weekend.

Nostril Cheese 02-15-2007 06:41 AM

300 looks awesome.

REALLY looking forward to Grindhouse

porsche911girl 02-15-2007 06:42 AM

glad to know that. I was thinking of seeing it.

I made it through the first 20-30 minutes before I ejected it, absolutely unwatchable to me. Just horrible; maudlin, as predictable as a porn film, and life-negating. Worst "message film" since "Crash". And I really like the actors who worked on it.

That said, I will not be surprised if it wins best picture. The Academy must be slipping into dementia or something, after some of the recent wins. I have heard from other people who thought it was good, but most that I've talked to share my assessment. Huge swing and a miss.

+1

Crash was one of the worst films I've seen in years.

Looking forward to "breach". I followed that issue when it happened...it happened close to me.... some of the sam park Hanssen used for drops, I"d hang out in.

I knew that Norbit was going to be bad because they played the movie trailer at just about every commercial.

Scott at Pelican Parts 02-15-2007 07:23 AM

9 out of 10 critics think Norbit sucks. I know, critics aren't always right. But this is a critical mass.

Crash sucked.
Not to put too fine an edge on it, Wayne, but if the whiff chose Norbit, you've really got to examine her other choices. :D

If someone knows the answer to this question, please enlighten me: What is it about blacks* believing that dressing up as fat, loud, crass black women is funny -- whether to other blacks or to non-blacks?

*Use "African-Americans" here if you're sensitive to that kind of thing.

I'm with Thom on the "non-appearance of Eddie Murphy" theory.

Best movie of recent vintage I've seen... not sure 100%, but Casino Royale would be damned near the top. Best non-vehicular chase scene I've ever seen at the beginning of that movie, and that includes a bunch of martial-arts film chase scenes. I think the "romance" was a big oleaginous... but probably done that way so we could accept 007 as a heartless womanizer (of which character trait I completely approve) in the coming films.
