It's a buyer's market. I would hazard a guess that there will be some people with advanced degrees applying for that position. When you have no income, you do what you can to eat.

Well, if I was out of work, that's more than I'd get from unemployment, but it still sucks.

What's the cost of living in GR, MI like. I visited once. It didn't look like the cost of living should be too high based on what I saw, and how far is GR from Detroit?

Thank goodness I'm not in the position to have to consider that job.

Unemployment pays $19k a year.

Anyway, G.R. is average C.O.L. I guess. You can rent a one bedroom for maybe $700 -$800 a month but it won't be nice. A real rat hole for $400-$450.

Pumping gas at the Chevron or flipping burgers at the In-N-Out by my house starts at $10 per hr. I might be filling out an application pretty soon. More likely, I'll end up waiting tables for a bit.

My salary is down about 30% from 2007 levels. I'm just glad I'm still employed... MI is not a good place to be, although many other places are also getting bad, employment-wise.

I'd take the unemployment and find some work that paid under the table.

Movers can make some good money off the books.

My little sister's best friend, who racked up $80,000 in student loans after taking 7 years at Columbia to get a bachelor's in film now works as a mover to keep his income off the books...

I was a mover in high school and it paid $10 hr. in cash plus tips. That was pretty good in 1988.

I think you can pretty easily make $20/hr mowing yards. I know I did when I was in middle school, that was 15 years ago.

In the Land of Lincoln and Obama, you can only collect unemployment for 26 weeks, plus now an additional 13 weeks so for a total of 39 weeks or 9 months.

Here in Houston, back in 2001 when I got laid off it was $404 a week max. I think that works out to 21k per year.

There was a school janitor job in Ohio paying $15.37/hr plus benefits. They had over 500 apps. for that one. This is a very different world today; you do what you have to do.
