audio visual cabling help needed
Im in the middle of finishing my lounge but need to 1st fix my a/v cabling before the floor goes down. Im not going wild, just a combined DVD player/surround sound unit and a SKY+ box & plasma/LCD. Trouble is the screen is to be at least 8-10 metres away from the DVD/SKY boxes. do I just use really long cables? and what cables will i need? The last setup I had just used SCART leads and what looked like posh phono leads. what leads will i need to connect the two units to the screen? Am i right in thinking that I'll have one coax coming from the sky dish to the SKY+ box, then a lead from the SKY box to the screen and a seperate lead from the DVD to the screen?
all these questions!

First off, 8-10 meters away!? Why, and do you have a living room that is 24-30+ feet long to be able to do this? Does not matter how far away the DVD or Sat. feed box are from the tv. The easiest hook up and very decent picture would be to use the Ypbr cables you can pick up at any electronic store (do not let then talk you into any specific plated kind, the run of the mill will do...) These wires will come from your Sky box and DVD player into the LCD. They are the three different coloured wire hook ups at the back, blue, red, green also known as 'Component wires'. Use Digital optical out from your DVD and/or Sky box if present into your receiver, if receiver only has one input, input from the DVD (better sound) tv sound does not compare. Hope that helps a little, Enjoy.....

Do you have a receiver for surround sound, 5.1 6.1 or 7.1. Usually receivers or amps have only one digital optical input for your sound from dvd or sat. You can use coaxial (rca cables) for your surround but the digital output is easier and better (one cable) Just saying if you have an input for Digital Optical sound use it with your DVD player, wasted on cable or sat. sound. That's it. You have HDMI input, the cables are PRICEY....I do not see any difference between DVD picture in comparisson with the Ypbr cables, but the HDMI is a one stop picture and sound transfer, easy set up as long as your DVD and receiver/amp also have these input/output options. My .02$, digital sound out of DVD to receiver. Component cables for picture from dvd to LCD, Sat. S-video for picture (unless you have HDtv) and rca cable for sound, again unless you have a digital output or the HDMI hook up.

Thanks ejames, Ive done some more homework and I have some more info about my proposed system. the DVD is not that special (Sony DAVs550) and includes the surround sound processor and amp. It has one YpbPr output, one s-video output and one video output.
The SKY+ box only has two SCART outputs.... The LCD is a nice bit of kit and has two HDMI, one S video, two SCARTs and one YPB componet input. I was going to use YpbPr to YpbPr for the DVD to LCD connection and SCART to SCART for the SKY+ to LCD. There also seems to be the option of a SCART to S-video lead for my SKY to LCD. would this be a better connection than just SCART to SCART? thanks in advance
