I'd be afraid I'd hurt someone, get kicked off the range, or look like an idiot--in that order.

Absolutely not, only an idiot tries to shoot that way. I could give you a scientific reason why not to do it, but suffice it to say that if you want to hit your target first shot every time, time after time, you'll not do it "gangsta" style.

You've reminded me of a question I was asked about the infamous TEC-9, seen so often on TV as a horrendously dangerous weapon in the hands of gangsta's. I informed them that I'd be overjoyed to see a TEC-9 in the hands of someone pulling a gun on me, because it tends to jam on the second round, and is so inaccurate that a first round hit is unlikely. Before the bad-boy cleared the jam, he'd have a couple of .45 slugs he'd have to adapt to.

But they are trying to hit multiple people. It probably is more effective gangsta style.

Purely movie BS. Mike, if You'd had been in this area longer, I'd have been glad to take you to the local rifle & pistol club, let you explore the question for yourself...

They hit multiple people attempting to hit one person, who sometimes doesn't get hit at all. Gangsta's are notoriously bad shots.

Pat,

I live in L.A., the newspaper has that story all of the time. Just trying to have fun. I have been shooting for a large portion of my life and have never attempted that "style", well I think I might have with a pellet gun many years ago, but it only fired one shot at a time.

I let a friend fire my Makarov once- he couldn't hit the proverbial barn. He then turned it on its side and started hitting what he wanted to- no idea why. He is a southpaw, I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Cheers,

Paul.

Lubemeister,

Jordi and I were talking about another Pelican meet in Vegas this spring. He wants to include a trip to the local range, where they have full rock and roll machine guns. You can try it then but to tell the truth all someone shooting like that is doing is making noise and wasting ammo.

Certainly there's the "looking idiotic factor", but also it seems like an easy way to get hurt and/or lose control/grip of the firearm, with a sufficiently recoil-heavy load. Not real high on my list of things to try...

I have actually tried it, just focking around w/ my (former) Glock out in the dessert many years ago. I could not hit anything shooting that way. Think about it; the gun kicks from side-to-side. It's a joke. If you ever hit what you were aiming for, it would be a pure coincidence.

It works very, very well, two handed with a single pellet air pistol. I've never tried it with a cartridge gun but I think it should work as well or better than a weaver stance if you got the grip right, bracing the left elbow into the chest and resting the right hand on the left hand.

As far as loking stupid...it simply can't look sillier than the FBI crouch

I may get out the 45 and try this weekend (early, when there are no witnesses )

i think this one comes under the heading of ........."how NOT to impress your CCW instructor or military range officer!"

wow thinking about this for a moment, ...............just plain hurts ! it aint right, never will be right, and well put simply..........get you dead real fast sucka!

heres one for you if you THINK YER REALLY GOOD!

try shooting (2) 6" barrel smith & wesson model 29's or 629's .44 mag "dirty harrys" and tell us ALL ABOUT how accurate you are rapid fire!

dont even think about hitting your target after firing first round, if you actually can light off (12) rds. full blast, as fast as you can. try it! we did................and heres the scientific conclusion. the ONLY way you will ever come close to being like "dirty harry" is by magna porting the barrel. and even then the muzzle will rise!

interesting article in shotgun news about chuck connors "the rifleman" and his extensive gun collection and firearms training. article mentioned that "if" such an individual existed with connors ability in the old west he would be a force to be reckoned with. but it also mentions how his winchester was modified by hollywood and how to do his twirling motion w/his winchester was not something that was very safe.

Done it once, before gangsta. Was shooting IPSC, had to either take blind shots with the pistol upright/vertical and barrel thru slats but sites blocked, or turn sideways and use the sites.

Obviously, you have never fired a TEC-9!
Granted, I have a laser sight on mine, but it is EXTREMELY accurate, and very reliable. The only jam they might get are the traditional "stove pipe" jams, but if it is maintained well, they almost never jam.... Mine hasn't!

I've always been under the impression that most gangstas don't regularly clean their guns, which probably makes jamming more likely.

Granted, but Pat's post comes across like ALL TEC-9s will jam, regardless of cleanliness on the second round. Just setting the record straight.

I just can't seem to talk my local range into allowing me to drive down the firing line in the neighbor kid's lowered Civic, boom box cranked, firing indescriminantly out the window at about 35 silhouette targets all stapled together to look like a crowd of people.
