Ferrari more Exclusive than Porsche?

I was diving in a Ferrari Forum and they were saying that Ferrari has more exclusivity and Mysticism than Porsche ? So I was thinking : What the Heck does they mean?

For my exclusivity has nothing to do with the price you pay for a commodity , for me is the Volume, Production Numbers and availability . If you have a Carrera GT is far more exclusive than a Ferrari Modena cause the Total Numbers they made.

Exclusivity is not that important to me - as long as I love the car, I'd be happy if many others shared my good taste and bought one too.

As far as Carrera GT exclusivity, I think Ferrari owners would point out that Ferrari made only 500 Enzo's to the 1,250 or so CGT's (not that I'd care much)...

I agree that volume and availability determine exclusivity along with some factor of product desirability. After all if I made a crappy product in low volume with limited availability, I don't think I could call it exclusive.

Overall then, Ferrari would be more exclusive because the production volume was much less. With the Carrera GT you should probably compare it to an Enzo in which case, I'm sure the Enzo is more 'exclusive' (although I don't have the statistics to prove this).

Exclusive however does not necessarily mean better!

As a whole, Ferraris of course have more exclusivity and "mysticism" than Porsche, under any reasonable definition of those words as applied to automobiles.

Relative to Ferrari, Porsche is a mass producer of vehicles. The Boxster is a highly advertised car in every major metro newpaper for "LOW DOWN! $499/month!" and is commonly leased and driven by big haired secretaries.

Ferrari isn't a company like that.

They may not be better cars, but they are more exclusive. As a whole, they cost a LOT more (compare lowest price new porsche to lowest price new Ferrari), and are produced in a fraction of the numbers as Porsche. That by definition is more exclusivity. You also generally have to be on a wait list to buy even the lowest end new Ferrari (Ferrari 430). There's no wait list for the low end new Porsches (Boxsters), those are pushed like dime bags at the local Jr. High.

There is more "mysticism" too. That is defined by valet parkers. Any Ferrari is going to get parked out front of a high end hotel. The 996/997/Boxster/Caymen/Cayenne goes into the parking structure with the Tauruses.

Re: Ferrari more Exclusive than Porsche?

Yes, Ferrari is more exclusive, Porsche is more inclusive.

. . .Is there a problem with that?

Jose,

If "mysticism" is the ritual sacrifice of blood and tears that accompany the changing of testarossa spark plugs, then yes, Ferrari corners the market. They have the dubious distinction of sharing the space with MG and their damned knee-type shocks and triple wipers.

As for exclusive, the hair-framed gold chain crowd doesn't let just ANYBODY in either. That does not mean that you should aspire to a corner booth...

Perhaps a good analogy would be Bridget Moynihan vs. Giselle....

One is an extremely attractive and beautiful actress...a high
performance but still accessible model.

The other is an exotic supermodel... beautifully designed,
flamboyant, but a bit flaky and high-maintanance.

ps: Tom Brady is one lucky sob.

Well that's not exactly true, but I get get your point (and agree that Ferrari's are a bit more "exclusive" than Porsches. That being said, any time I bring any one of my three Porsches to any restaurant in say, Newport Beach, they always get parked in front. I've never seen it any other way. Would a Ferrari trump my cars at the Valet? Hell yea, but that doesn't mean they park mine in the Taurus section.

[Tongue in Cheek]

They ARE more exclusive and mystical:

- You are exluded from changing the spark plugs without yanking the engine.
- You are excluded from driving them more than 10k miles before the drivetrain craps out.
- Your bank account will Mysteriously dissapear while owning one.
- You will sprout mysterious dark thick chest hair while your shirt buttons will mysteriously pop off down to your sternum while your necklaces become exclusively gold.

Last time I checked, a restaurant in newport isnt a high end hotel.

Take your 3 porsches to, say, the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel and see where it gets parked. Taurus city, baby.

Not if the Valet had any taste at all.

I when I was up seeing Big Head Todd a couple of weeks ago I was suprised by the reaction of the Valets and the resulting conversation for 5 minutes while my wife waited impatiently. This was at a Westin not exactly Ritz Carlton but not a Holiday in either.

I pulled in and the Valet ran over. He exclaimed that its a rare day to see an old school 911 there. He offered me free vip parking up front. We talked cars for a couple of minutes and they put the car up front.

I agree a newer Porsche might get the Taurus treatment, but if the valtet knows anything about cars and sees an old school immaculant 911 pull in, I would imagine it will get the same treatment as a pasta rocket.

Agreed. I like cars, all kinds of cars. One must be secure in themself to get beyond the perceptive value of one's car. I bought a Porsche to experience what I had read so much regarding its' driving experience. I would buy a Ferrarri if I had the money, but not for the sake of its' exclusivity, but for the sake of experiencing the machine. I would love to drive many makes and models, prestigious and not so prestigious. Having said all that, you can't completely igore the allure the vehicle has on others: we are social creatures after all.

I don't care about status, never had.

This is my Ferrari, try to tell me otherwise. Last track day there were 8 Ferrari's and 1 RX7. Exlusive?

As a Taurus owner, Just what is wrong with being parked next to one? Bad guys don't go in the Taurus section, it's safer from theft!
