Why Do We Own Porsches?

I Guess what i mean is i am 47 years old and i just bought my first one----ever since i was old enough to appreciate cars i always wanted to own one ---i'd see one driving by and i'd say to myself "man someday i'll have one" but why, everything i have ever read has said they are money pits---"wait till it breaks down see what it's gonna cost you" the beauty and mystique of the car overshadows all the negative b.s. that i have ever read about them----------i have seen a lot of beautiful cars in the world but nothing has ever compared to a porsche---when i went to buy her she was sitting next to a $175,000 lamborguini and i'll be honest i never even noticed the lamborguini until my wife pointed it out----------i guess love is really blind!!!!!-----------i'd like to hear some other opinions on why we all chose a PORSCHE!!!!

I've lusted after 911s my whole life as well. As a kid, my Dad had a couple of nice 911s and Porsche's were dominating all kinds of motorsport. So, as soon as I could afford one I bought my SC after a 1 year search. I still remember the first time I saw the car and I think I made my mind up to buy it at that very moment. My first Porsche was remarkably low maintenance and when you factor in depreciation, it was one of the cheapest cars to run that I have ever owned - but without a doubt the most fun!

With my 2nd 911 I am living the dream and taking it to the track whenever I can. I am firmly on the slippery slope and my current Porsche is definitely costing me some money, but I am loving it.

Congrats by the way on your first Porsche. Have you posted some pics?

I think Jay Leno once reported that as a man ages "it" gets smaller so he calculated that by the time he was 65 his would be "normal" size.

I've owned or played with Porsches since I was 17. A lot of water under the bridge since then. After driving my first 911 nothing has really been the same.

A passion for sports cars that became an obsession when introduced to Porsche! All of this was fueled with ownership of several VW's in my pre-sports car days!

There are a few cars I could drive and be as happy, but a 911 (I assume that's what we are talking about) in the basically 2-seater class, fits me like a glove. Now, the Boxster fits me like OJ's glove. But, I'm right at home in a 911. Most cars, including the Boxster, I mess with the seat mounts to get the position relative to the pedals and the wheel. 911's were ergonomic before the word was even a thought.

Oh, there's something about the noise that comes from the back, too.

But, I kinda like Jag's too when it comes to 4-doors. Same deal, hop in and you're "at the controls." If I couldn't have a 911, I'd have a Jag. I've been around a lot of E-types too. They're a lot of fun. But as a guy who had a dozen air cooled VW's the 911 is more natural for me.

Did I mention it feels real good to slide into the seat?

and a car...each one unique...with personality.

I think of myself as more of a "car guy" than a "Porsche guy". One of the big reasons for a Porsche is how active the local Porsche club is. Lotsa time available to wear a helmet on a track.

That being said, I've really come to appreciate many aspects of 911 ownership. The factory engineers really got it right.

For me, I was passionate about them since I was very young... it had nothing to do with prestige or status or class... I just loved the way they looked and sounded and I fell in lust with the widebodied cars with the more aggressive stance For me, there is no substitute

because its the coolest car ever! well not quite. But its defiinatly the cheapest of the coolest cars ever Its deffinatly the coolest car anywhere around my town though

I remember the 1969 Lemans on TV. I didn't care much at the time but dad did. The Fords just got by some German cars at the end. Porsche's.

In '72 dad had an Audi, while waitng at the dealership I wandered by some Porsche cars (911's) their engine was in the back and they looked and smelled very cool. I can still recall that new Porsche smell back then.

Dad got me a new 914 2.0 in '73. I'd wanted a 240Z but the waiting list was long. Loved that car as a high school senior and took excellent care of it. The decision came down to a recommendation of a business associate of my dad's who knew a lot about cars. He was German and came by one day after work to visit my dad. I asked him "Gunther which car would you get?". His reply (I can still hear it today) "I'd get za porsha". Turns out he worked and raced for the factory in the 50's. That one sentence changed my life forever.

Next year I got my first 911 at age 19. I'm 51 and Porsches have been part of my life ever since. There is no other car for me period......I could care less about impressing girls with them when I was young or neighbors and friends today. The connection I have with these cars is on a much deeper level.

I told one of my co-workers i had removed my ac and he said "a porsche without ac is like a caddilac without power windows". And he goes on about how iv had the car for 6 months and still no girlfreind. He obvioulsy doesnt get it. I think this saying applys for porsche more than it does for jeep. "Its a porsche thing, you wouldnt understand"
