I don't anger easily, but....

This Anna Nicole Smith coverage is trying me. I have the news on in my office all day at background volumes but it's off right now. The TV is lucky that I turned it off as the other option was pitching it against the wall in a rage. I'm not kidding around, I'm tangibly upset. It is both annoying and insulting that they play this BS. But what has me even more upset is that most people must care or they wouldn't be covering it.

Man I need a drink already today.

legion 02-21-2007 07:41 AM

I can tolerate about 30 seconds a day of Anna Nicole coverage. That's about what I feel her death warrants--and only that because of the very bizzarre stuff surrounding it.

I haven't really watched the news since her death because of the extensive coverage...

Zeke 02-21-2007 07:46 AM

Why? What's going on? I don't see anything in yesterday's paper (LA Times), haven't read today's yet. It does somehow seem messed up that we have all these problems in the US and the world and we focus on some infamous woman. I dial it out. Didn't even know it was still an item.

DaveE 02-21-2007 07:48 AM

You need to change the channel from FOX...............

CNN is covering the Walter Reed Hospital problems, but you probably don't want to hear about that either.

livi 02-21-2007 07:51 AM

Yup, the sad core of every damn superficially stupid media coverage is that people seemingly are interested in it.

Homo Trivial Sapience..

Oh yes, they all break in their coverage every now and again.

dd74 02-21-2007 07:53 AM

It's the money ($574 million) that gets me. Everything is about the money - I can just see it in the interested parties' eyes. I bet no one gives a rat's ass about the little girl.

Hendog 02-21-2007 08:06 AM

Do you have access to news media outside your borders? Try the BBC or the CBC.

Moneyguy1 02-21-2007 08:13 AM

CNN evening commentators....
....
Can't they do better than Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace? Yecch.....

masraum 02-21-2007 08:13 AM

That's why I don't watch the news. These days the news is as serious a provider of info as a Harlequin romance novel. It's all about sensationalism an the same crap that drives the "reality" shows. It's main target is the average idiot.

many944s 02-21-2007 08:16 AM

I hear ya!
I have gotten to the point that I don't even turn on the TV. Of course, her d@mn picture is all over MSN too, looks like I am going to have to change my browser home page as well!

If I watch in the evening, it's Matthews and Olberman on MSNBC.

Dantilla 02-21-2007 08:20 AM

Ratings.

I haven't looked at any of the Anna Nicole or Brittany threads here at Pelican, but they're here, and have a bunch of traffic. Even the car guys can't seem to look away from the ugliness in other's lives.

id10t 02-21-2007 08:26 AM

Naw, we're just waiting for someone to repost the snatch shots while Z-man isn't looking....

Dave....I do like Olbermann. He isn't exactly "impartial", but not as pompous as what's on FOX.........(and he is funny to boot)

In truth, I do tune in the last minutes of BillO just to catch the mail he reads.

And what for news?

Len:

This deserves repeating:

"It really is no mystery

Whether politics or History

The thing you gotta know is

EVERYTHING is show biz."

"Hitler" in "The Producers"

I get my news from Pelican OT. I trust you guys more than Anderson Cooper or Lou Dobbs.

Everything, from my local paper to the networks to cable to the net.

Z-man 02-21-2007 10:02 AM

This just in: news leaked from the Howard K Stern media team that Britney Spears was paid by the Anna Nicole Smith family to shave her head to take media coverage away from the circus that is becoming the NEW Anna Nicole Smith show.

When confronted with this information, the Anna Nicole Smith family responded by stating, "That is not true. There is no way that we would do such a thing. By the way, we would like to take this time to release some compromising pictures of Justin Timberlake and K-Fed taken last week at a dingy hotel room in Pittsburgh...

Hooray for Hollywood...

I've been watching the hearing these past several days. it's a real life soap opera. but tragic for the parties involved..
the judge is amusing to say the least.

the best part is when the Medical Examiner called him yesterday, saying: hey judge, you better hurry up, the body is deteriorating faster than we thought.

other than that, my opinion of lawyers has dropped another notch. they know all the little dirty tricks.

azasadny 02-21-2007 11:33 AM

This is why I don't watch TV news of any kind. The OJ Simpson, then Laci Peterson murders did me in, I couldn't take it any more. Now I get my news through online sources and don't have to watch fluff /sports/celebrity "news". I don't care about the latest bimbo/celebrity or latest teen craze or the other BS that passes for news that these sheeple sit and watch!

scottmandue 02-21-2007 11:42 AM

Okay...

I admit it....

I'M THE FATHER OF THE BABY!

One night in Vegas.... too many Mai Tai's... it's all a blur... oh the shame...

Purrybonker 02-21-2007 11:43 AM

Man I feel sorry for you guys south of the border. You are sooo deprived of decent news and it shows in sooo many ways.

Like was said here. Get a feed from BBC, or CBC- both can be had if you care to look around.

Or, if have no other choice, just rely on Jon Stewart for your news.

Been watching the BBC for years. Mix it with Fox and thats about it.

CNN is for pinko liberals to get hot to hump someone's leg, as is CBS and so on...

I bet lendaddy was watching FOX when this rant began.

cmccuist 02-21-2007 01:15 PM

Try Dawn - Pakistan's leading English language newspaper.. It slants toward islam, but they frequently veer into objectivity. And they cover the major stories of the day without the enormous egos of the fishhacks and "anchors" getting in the way.

And they don't slobber all over celebrities or democrats the way the rest of the MSM does.

seems like now all attention has shifted to baldy britney

Moneyguy1 02-21-2007 08:46 PM

I am confused.

Is she still dead?

jyl 02-21-2007 10:10 PM

What's wrong with reading your news?

NYT, WSJ, FT, Economist - plenty of news there and hardly an Anna in sight.

Online works too. I like Google News, customize it for your own interested.

Watching TV pop-news programs and complaining there's not enough real news is like reading People Magazine and complaining there's not enough real news.

Like I said, I leave it on at background levels in my office. I am generally pleased with the daytime coverage as I get all the press conferences and what not as well. This week has been the exception, not the rule.

I don't know about you, but I can't read and work at the same time:D

That's a false statement. Everyone knows I'm the father. You'll be hearing from my attorney...

Olberman not pompous? Now that's funny.

I do watch him sometimes, but schtick gets old and tiring pretty quick. Just like O'Reilly did. Olberman is pretty much just the left version of O'Reilly, although arguably even more over-baked than O'Reilly. nothing more than "infotainment."

Plus, does Olberman EVER have anyone on that even remotely disagrees with his point of view? Even just a lacky or someone weak from the right to just beat up on. His circle jerks with his guests get tiring too. Olberman's raging hard-on for O'Reilly also is an embarassment.

I do agree on the Anna Nichole stuff, it has gotten crazy, on ALL those channels. I turn the TV on occassionally to the "news" channels to see if there is any real news, see that same sensationalized crap on ALL the channels, and just turn it off.

Well said, I can't watch him without an intense feeling of embarassment for him.

Moneyguy1 02-22-2007 05:06 PM

He's not embarassed, len....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!! These guys all make the big bucks.

None of these guys are "real" newspeople. They are entertainers, and each has an axe to grind. Our technology has created the ability for instant communications on a vast scale. Unfortunately, there is not enough actual "news" to fill that vast void. So, we are left with multiple outlets all vying for attention. This results in dilution to a point where no one can tall what the original broth tasted like.
