That's Hans Stuck. He could drive a garbage truck around the 'ring faster than most people in a 911.

Great video Bell, I will take one in black and with the tow package for the boat. Yes, I know I will have to put z-rated tires on the trailer but just imagine how much faster I will be able to get to the lake. Seriously, that would be one fun SUV to have as a daily driver, you know, for when the weather just isn't right for the Porsche.

Eh! Stick a supercharger on an E-lade, and be done with it.

Stop applying logic. It has no basis in deciding to buy an SUV.

The sound of the motor is totally incongruent with what it powers. You hear an RSR style rasp and along comes a yuppy behemoth.

Sure does corner flat for a pig.....

I owned an X5 4.6is for 4 years and really, really liked it. It is not a big SUV, but the rear seats have a ton a legroom, unlike many other large SUV's. Think of it more as a more practical 5 series that is all wheel drive and can tow 5000 lbs. My car had 350hp and it was easily the fastest, best handling SUV this side of a Cayenne Turbo. I sold it when we had are 4th and needed more room. Are you sure this car is a V12? I would bet it is a twin turbo V8.

Lots of noise, but I don't think Stuck was pushing at all. I don't think he would in street clothes. At least the vid shows a little restraint (except for the jump ), more than you can say for most of the auto commericials and promos today.

i'd take one (x5) specifically BECAUSE it really isn't a real suv... have the room, the tow potential, plus actual sportiness.... if they could only make a 5 series wagon w/ this towing capacity...

SUV=junk. Don't care what it has in it or whose badge is on it.

Those two items weren't even on our top 10 list when shopping for a SUV. I just don't get the sport SUV concept. Sports cars should be small, lightweight, and fun to drive. Work vehicles not so much...

Why shouldn't a "work vehicle" be fun to drive? Not everyone that needs a tow vehicle and wants to haul an odd cargo or two wants to drive a Tahoe the remaining 360 days out of the years.

Someone that wants the cargo capacity of a 5-series station wagon with the easy access, improved traffic visibility and 4-wheel drive of an SUV. I'm considering swapping my 325i for a used X5 3.0i. It makes more sense for my winter beater to have 4-wheel drive, and there are a couple of times a year when I'd like more cargo capability (like when I bought a new dining table). Personally, I'm glad companies are figuring out that 4-wheel drive doesn't have to equal crappy driving dynamics - I spent some of my teen years driving Ford 4x4s, and I have no intention of repeating the experience.

I used to think that way until I raced one of these with my 911.

Really, it was Lamborghini who pioneered the sport SUV.

These have been around since the early 80s. They came with the Countach's V12 and a 5 speed gearbox, and are about the size of a Ford Escape.

They are much faster and more nimble than they appear.

The reason that particular X5 has a raspy exhaust is the V12 (yup it is a V12, not a V8) is the full Le Mans spec engine that powered the BMW Williams V12 LMR to victory in the 1999 Le Mans...

That's also the reason it was never built...a 25hour TBO really doesn't work for a road car
