No comments on the stock market???
Maybe I missed it, but I don't see any thread commenting on the stock market's decline today?
Well then, I'll start one! I'm surprised gold didn't rally on the market's decline -- I wish it had since I just purchased some Golden Star Resources (symbol: GSS) in my Roth account. Anyone "panicking" and planning to sell, or will you be looking for buying opportunities? |

Not panicking or planning to sell. I'll ride it out like I've done in the past. I just won't look at my 401K and Roth accts.

Two words: "Overseas Funds".
Thankfully, I have much of my 401k in those. It offset todays losses in the domestic stock-based funds considerably.

Tomorrow is another day. No biggie. Frankly, I would not be suprised if we have a very tough year.

Checking your stocks every day is like using a stopwatch to tell time. Think long term, buy and hold, check in every couple of months. My portfolio makes more than my day job.

the stock market provides great risk without the control. do you really want to wait 20 or 30 years to discover whether you made out well? There are many other vehicles to multiply your money without the risk. Only a few people generate large wealth on Wall St. ![]() |

Just one of those irrational hiccups. Maybe a due correction from the recent advances.I understand part of the selloff was artificial, created by a glitch in the electronic trading. Wall St should be concerned about his. Some computers are set to buy or sell on their own--depending on what certain indices say. That should be banned. You want people controlling, not computers.
This is an excellent opportunity to make some fast money, as these types of selloffs, without much foundation, correct quickly. I also find it disturbing that a single person such as Greenspan or Berneke can have such a big effect on the market. That isn't healthy. Especially Greenspan, who is no longer connected with the Fed, and can make a lot of money influencing the market. He "warned" of a recession in 2007. That's irresponsible, in my view.

The best investment is real estate. As long as the population keeps growing.

My 401k was up 18% in the last 7 months with a good mix of US and overseas funds. Yes it took a slight hit yesterday but thats life. I have at least half of my retirement portfolio focused overseas and have done so the last 18 years. Yes, I invest EVERYWHERE and if I do not do this then I am screwing MYSELF on my retirement. Those who do not look at every option available are simply screwing themselves out of the retirement that they deserve. Its your choice.
