Ca Speedway.......Boring
Have had season tickets since the track was opened.
Still boring as ever. They need to tear it down, add 10 degrees of banking and narrow it by 20 feet. The fun part is bs'ing w my buddies in the lot, drinking beer and eating Carnitas Tacos. I always leave w 20 laps to go, drive right out of there and listen to the end on sirrius>

The only way to experience the race is in a RV in the infield for 3-4 days. What a freak show! Everyone has to do it once in their lives.

I never can figure out the guy or gal who gives the finger to Jeff Gordon lap in and lap out.
As if the driver can see or hear them.

I did the RV thing in the infield a few years ago. One night, I was genuinely scared for my life. We ended up arming ourselves with knives under our pillows, just in case. On Saturday night, we got to listen to the 2 guys in the RV next to each other in a drunken argument all night, with one of them threatening to stab the other one. On another night, we F-cked with a drunken neighbor who wouldn't turn his generator off at night. Every couple hours, we'd sneak over and hit the kill switch. That sum-***** was pissed. Cops were a once-an-hour ordeal. I won't even tell you about the topless sub-prime women everywhere.

I used to race against Dale Jr on a regular basis 7 or 8 years ago. He was very agressive on the track then too. Caused many a pileup, but we always looked forward to racing with him in our weekly league when he could make it. Okay, so it wasn't in real cars nor was it at a real track, but it really was him behind the wheel in his virtual race car. We raced competitively using "NASCAR Racing" simulator software on our computers. He was just like everyone else and that's why he is so popular today. |

You guys need to go to Talladega and see what happens at night. Hell, they have a jail built right on the property. 2-3 bail bondsmen set up shop in trailers right outside. It's nothing but an all night drunken bash. You don't go to a NASCAR race to sleep at night as most of these crazies sleep the next day, some during the race they supposedly came to see.
I would never stay out there with the animals. Anymore, if I don't have a pit pass, I'm not there. That's what makes our local racing so much fun. We can all be in the pits. |

Whenever we would mention that we wanted to see Talladega Alan would simply tell us, "you dont want to go to Talledega" April 1, 1993 Alan died in his sponsors (Hooters) aircraft a few months after winning the Championship. We miss you Alan,. Very intense guy.

The crowd at Joliet is decidedly upscale. Considering you have to buy tickets for every race at the track for the year as a package (at $250 a pop for the crappy seats), it's really no surprise. Plenty of drinking, very little misbehaving. Joliet must have at leat 1000 cops walking around and on horseback. Fun and civilized.

I was there on Sunday. My first Nascar event. TV doesn't give the true speed these cars go. That I enjoyed. First 5 laps are a rush when the cars go by.
The drunks, the "sub prime women" the 35 minute wait to take a leak the "A" hole next to us who had to stand and yell every time his "MAN" went by and his three friends that flipped off every other car, . NO THANKS I left at lap 100, went home turned on the TV to catch the finish. Would I go again???? sure If I got free tixs but I would go only for the first 50 laps. MY biggest fear, leaving the track and getting into a car with 60,000 drunks in hopped up trucks and SUV's.

Hmmm...I wonder if people who attend the Superbowl could say pretty much the same things? Of course, attending LeMans and/or any F-1 race would assure one of avoiding such behavior...

Funny but racing is pretty universal.
I have gone to a few F1 races in various countries and you find "foreign speaking nuts" everywhere. When we were at the Hungaroring, there were tons of drunk Sweds and Germans that would rival our Nascar hillbillies. Fun people but similiar to Richard's (Motion's) story. Only difference in Europe is that they use tents and tiny RVs instead of the huge RV we can build here in the good old U S of A. People outside the general admission area seemed pretty normal........ ;-) Other F1 races like Italy, Canada, and Japan have been much more pleasant.
