In a different scenario, if the Crown goes to a male, he becomes King. His wife would become queen since that is a lower title.
(I think I have that straight...)

Is that correct?

I always thought one of the distinguising features of the British monarchy was that only one in the couple gets the title "King" or "Queen" ie., that only the annointed sovereign gets that title.

But I stand to be corrected.

They need to make like the Saudi Royal family and have 100's of princes and princesses in waiting...

great post isa! funny stuff

svandamme 02-27-2007 02:22 PM

if the King dies without children , then it goes up to the next brother or sister, or if those are allready dead and has kids, the kids

many of the oountries with a Monarchy , have by now changed the laws, so that it no longer has to be a male heir to the throne, hence a Queen in the UK and The Netherlands...

Dunno why , but i like Royals, they are a constant
not like the politicians who come and go with the elections
and they don't hold real power anyway , so they tend to do little harm other then the occasional scandal or what not, but that's just entertainement , they are after all, royals... you don't want to know what **** i would pull if i were one myself... to hell with protocol, get me Stuttgart on the phone, i need new wheels, then call the Ring, i wanna go do a few laps

You don't do that now?

svandamme 02-27-2007 02:49 PM

well sure
i call Stuttgart all the time, they even pick up the phone
then hear it's me , not beeing Royal , not beeing Royally funded and then they hang up on my non royal ass

same for the ring, sure i can call, but they refuse to keep the ordinary peasants in their "i bought mine at the dealership" , non royal porsches of the Ring for the duration of my visit...

If we look back to the previous male rulers, it seems correct. Before QE2:
Albert was "HRH the Prince" from birth in 1895 until he ascended the throne in 1936. His wife, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, held title as HRH the Duchess of York from their marriage in 1923 until Albert ascended.

When he ascended, he became "HM King George VI", and she became "HM Queen Elizabeth".

This was the woman whom most of us knew as HM the Queen Mother, who passed away in 2002.

She became the "Queen Mother" when her husband died in 1952 and Elizabeth II ascended the throne.

You may be correct, Pat.

I've read historical accounts of royal lines that died out, but I can't see them ever letting this one go.

As dysfunctional as they may be....

azasadny 03-01-2007 08:05 AM

They look inbred to me...

cashflyer 03-01-2007 08:57 AM

Inbred??!!

From what I have read:
Prince Phillip is great-great grandson of Queen Victoria.
Queen Elizabeth is the great-great granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
(not both in the same direct lineage... but still  )
