Anyone around Gatlingburg?

I'm thinking about going on a road trip to the Smokies from March 25 to March 28. Is there any Pelicans down there? I just want to hang out and drive the great roads there. My wife will be in Europe, so its just me and the "slantnose". I don't GAS as to what I do, just as long as its fun.

I love the Smokies. My parents first took me there as a toddler (35+ yrs ago). In college, I convinced some of my buddies to stop there on the way to spring break in Florida. We found some nice tight twisty roads that lead to all the condos up near and around Ober Gatlinburg over looking the town.

We returned for a few years with mountain bikes and a pickup truck. We had about a 3-4 mile downhill course mapped out and would take turns driving the truck to haul everyone back up after each run down on the bikes. (we are lucky we had no serious injuries, as screwing up has huge penalties on these mainly blind curves with occasional oncoming traffic....ah too be young and stupid again!)

Unless you like really touristy ares that look just like Orlando Florida aviod Gatlinburg, the traffice there is unbearable as well.

Find places away from there to travel to. Or better yet, meet up with Procon, he knows the best roads to drive out that way.

If your planning on driving 441 through the park make sure you check that it is open. They close it for the winter and I am not sure when it opens back up.

No no, don't get the wrong idea. I know when to go there and where to stay. I've got a place to stay far away from the crowd. I only want to drive the roads and play some golf. I'm not on any agenda, any roads and byways will be fair game. Unless I can get a ticket to Florida, then its the beach.

Silver dollar pancakes when I was a little boy in the 70's, then pigs in a blanket later in life. I have family pictures of me standing in front of that place as a little boy 30+ years ago and pictures of me in more recent times with my own daughters.

Same goes for the National park sign in the entrance to the park along with pics at the Chimney Tops picnic area jumping rocks on the stream.

While it is indeed very touristy, it is kind of neat returning to the same places as I once enjoyed as a child 30+ years later.
