Start with the switch on the shifter, then check all the vacuum hoses and the reservoir for any leaks.

Also has the shift coupler been properly adjusted? Can you get it in gear when it's not running?

Vacuum lines are located off the intake manifold and run to servo that moves the clutch arm. if you don't have enough vacuum the arm does not move enough to engage the clutch. If the switch is faulty on the shifter nothing will work, it uses that signal from the switch to move the servo and engage the clutch.

this is what i know so far vacuum lines are good no leaks but that does not tell me mutch it ****ed better before i removed the shifter but now it dosent shift well grinds the hell out of the gears goes into park no problem now as far as the switch goes there is a wire going into the rod itself not connected at this point broke off but i think its a ground for the reverse lights not sure though get me thinking it can be the servos hope not dont want to get that much into the tranny though the pics in my early porsche manual shows the tranny very similar

Porsche Crest

Get a Bentley manual for Type 1 VW to '79. It covers the semi-auto.

The switch should have a ground and signal wire, on the 911 the ground is connected to one of the bolts that holds the shifter to the tunnel. The signal wire is routed through the tunnel, the wire in the tunnel can easily drop back in and you must remove the shifter to retrieve it.

thats exactly the wire that is disconnected thks that i think will cure most of the problem the other problem will be lining up the ****er to get all gears its not just a drop in, also what is the widest porsche rimsthat can be used with this car?
