F/A-18 downs Skyhawk

Looks like a training accident wherein a TA-4 is hit by an ejected external ordnance or pod.

I saw at least one crewmember eject, couldn't see the second seat come out, if there was a crewmember in it.

BOth made it out. Not a training flight but a test hop at Pax river. from memory I believe it was a weapons rack release.

Exactly right...storage separation testing, very much Pax Rivers stock in trade.

The aero models are sooo much better now in predicting separation characteristics that the close chase is not even required anymore for most tests.
