What just happened with Velvet Revolver.
They did a non VH song and the set was over. Now we have Paul Schaeffer with Sammy and Michael. Dave must be fuming. Awful, sounds like "elevator VH" Think it was unplanned

bah! What the hell does rap music have to do with rock and roll? Just another bunch of sell outs.
Shame on them. |

Now they're letting rap "artists" in the hall of fame, so it's over for me...

What the hell does rap have to do with music or art? Well, maybe it has something in common with modern art, but neither are art.
I don't believe the VH drama will ever get straightened out. Ed has just lost his mind, Al is afraid to piss off Ed, Diamond Dave is itching to play, but his voice sucks and Mike is a fan favorite, but uninvited to play with the old band. Very sad.

I can't believe what Im hearing. Rap is not art? Are you kidding me? Have you heard of this thing called poetry, its kinda related to rapping, been out a few year longer though. Let see, I can think of a few notable artists:
Tribe Called Quest Wu-Tang Clan Talib Kweli Mos Def MF Doom Outkast The Roots Beastie Boys Kanye These guys have more in common with Rock-n-Roll's bad-boy roots than a lot of the candyassed posers playing guitars these days. Open your minds guys, its a whole new world out there.

Agreed. Last thing I want is to sound like is my Dad when I was a kid - "you call that crap music...". Rap does not *speak* to me but there is a good body of work out there that even an old white guy like me can appreciate.

Fine. Rap acts want recognition. Fine. Just don't muddy the R&R HOF with it.

Too much overlap between Blues, Rock & Roll, R&B & rap to start excluding, IMO.

They're actually musicians. Rappers aren't. I can program a drum machine and keyboard as well as any rapper and I've only done it a few times many years ago.

I don't deny that there is a lot of crappy rap, and I can't stand the "gansgta" $chit either. I barely listen to any of it, but I have a particular soft spot for Beastie Boys.
It can easily be argued that Beastie Boy's Check Your Head & Ill Communication were as much rock & roll as rap. May not be to your liking, but there is real talent there.
