I didnot get the 1200HP Hemi but got the rest

I just bought a 72 Rayson 18' ski race boat
it was claimed to go 150 mph with the removed 1200hp blown hemi in place

the guy I bought the boat and custom trailer from
wanted only the motor as he has a 70 cuda and
hemi powered cuda's even clones are worth an amazing amounts

so any one into v-drive race/ski boats?
or want to buy or trade something for one?

pictures to follow after I get the boat home

My God, I couldn't imagine going 50 in that thing, let alone over 100 mph. The freeboard looks to be 18-20 inches, wouldn't be pretty hitting very large waves. On the other hand, take a SBC and have some fun with it. It would be an interesting project that is for sure.

LOL, small world. In my 20's I ran the boat drags in a flatbottom similar to that one, and mine had a supercharged Chrysler hemi and I had it close to 150 mph a few times! I still carry an old picture of it in my wallet to remind me how foolish I was with my money when I was young.

BTW be careful that up pedal on the left. It can do nasty things if there is anything more than a ripple or slight breeze.

From the pictures it loks like it has an old casale v-drive unit, pretty solid for a recreational boat but prolly wouldn't last long in front of 1200 hp unless it's the heavy duty unit. Does it have a flat mounting plate about 1/2" thick or does it have cast in ears sticking out the sides? (heavy duty race version).

If he had 1200 hp going through a recreational v-drive, it's prolly pretty beat up or he's 'zaggerating on the power. I had the recreational unit and spit the gears out the bottom of it after 2 runs and had to upgrade.

looks like the mount is the center of the V-drive 1/2 plate
but it is water cooled along with the shaft log

flat bottom boats are ONLY for flat water esp at any real speeds
anything near a very lite chop is way tooo much
but very small ripples help speed as the boat flys on the prop!!

THINKING ABOUT PUTTING A NORTHSTAR IN THERE
mostly because I have 3 extra N* motors
and light weight and hi revs would work

but no idea if thats a pratical idea or parts are made to do that
did hear of a boat/northstar CPU unit

one odd thing to me was
the hemi used a B&M hydro stick trans
basicly an auto with direct drive and no gears
just F, N,and R and a locked gutted tork converter
but that set stayed with the hemi and went in the cuda with it

wonder if a 700 gm tran would live and bolt to the N*?
that would save the cost of a flywheel and clutch
