Filming at my house today!

Discovery channel is filming at my house today. The story line is how the human body responds to stress, in this case a fire threatening a persons house. The actors will be jumping in the pool to escape the fire as it passes through. So I had to heat the pool to about 86 degrees. They're paying me $3,250 plus the cost of the gas to heat the pool. What's ironic is that about 5 years ago a brush fire claimed about 14 of my 18 acres, which actually turned out great in that it burned up brush that hadn't burned in about 50 years. The last pic is of my property actually burning five years ago, the rest are the film crew today.

Whats also ironic is that my job is motion picture and television production safety for Disney. I'm in Prague and Budapest this week and next for two of our films. We have a Discovery Channel fire safety officer at our house. My wife told me that while the local fire department was notified, a fire truck from another community was driving up the I-5 freeway to some training exercise and saw the fake smoke effects and pulled off the freeway and drove to my house. All the fire effects that they are doing will be digitally dropped in during post production. They're also doing a 1/20 scale model of my house for the digital work which they're going to give me.

As I recall, three people survived the Oakland Hills fire of about 1992 by jumping into a swimming pool and covering themselves with a wet blanket. Two others just a couple of houses died.

Not quite as cool, but a Verizon commercial for internet "airing" is being shot at my house today. We're only getting $1,500 for the day. I guess Dallas is a lot cheaper than the LA area.

Any film crew interested in my house can use it every day.

Nice spread there, Hugh.

At least they're paying you, but sheesh that's a lot of aggrivation to go through having all those people tromping through your property. Kinda' cool though. You should've stipulated getting to meet that hot chick from "Myth Busters" as a condition of compensation. . .

The biggest thing I'll probably have to deal with after they leave is picking up a zillion cigarette butts. Production crews smoke alot.

Its exterior shooting only so they aren't going in the house, which I really wouldn't want.

I was going to say, you work in the movie biz and you'd let those pimps and thieves enter your home? What are you man, crazy?
