Lincoln MKX commercial, surfs up

I think this is a great commercial and have seen it a number of times, just realized it was for an SUV.

One of my closest friends was involved with that spot...
at the time he was working for the creative agency on the Lincoln account. He was tellin me that
most of the creative team wanted to use "Surfer Girl" from the Beach
Boys in the background, but it was overruled by uppers who wanted a
non-descript "surfing" theme so as not to spoil the spot with unnecessary
distractions from the message.

Looks like it didnt necessarily work though, if people are just
now realizing that its for an SUV.

but who pays attention to commercial content these days

True, but think of the moms that would like to picture themselves as mythical surfer moms. Sort of the cooler-than-a-socker-mom image.
It's pretty normal advertising - look at all the SUV and pickup truck ads showing stuff that most owner will never do. I like the Hyundia ad where the guy walks out the front door, kisses his wife goodby and base jumps (parachutes) down to his SUV.

I always stop to watch that commercial. Has nothing to do with the car though.

Wait a sec... you mean not all Hyundai owners are certified sky-divers? Wow. I didn't know.

Next you're going to tell me that the Ford Edge can't drive on two wheels up 30 stories on skycrapers... and that if you get into a Mazda, you'll have mad "zoom - zoom" drifting skills.

What is this world coming to man?!?!

The commercial is part of the "My Dream" campaign that Lincoln is
running, with various spots etc. Here is the website that they created
around this concept:

http://www.mydream.tv/

BTW...the song in the surfing commercial is not the Santo and Johny
tune that the person on My Tube is referring to.

Not to pee in anyone's cornflakes, but I hate that ad.

Yeah, all life's shortcomings and disappointments are salved by just having kids. Lots of them.

And if you drive this pos, guys (unemployed trendyboys, of appropriate aesthetic and racial cross section) will ogle you.

And the pos' name has an "X" in it -- so it's radical, yo!

It actually reminds me for some reason of the "1985" song of recent popularity.

Not inspired brainstorming behind this one. JMHO.

I change the channel when it comes on. Like I did when the "Talking Head in the talking TV" or the "ahhhhh... everyday people" Toyota ads would come on. I made myself a promise that I've kept: having so thoroughly annoyed me so often with stuporous, inane advertising, I will specifically never purchase a Toyota.

I don't need to make myself a similar promise with Lincoln, because I'm in no danger of ever wanting to buy one (except maybe a suicide door Continental ... if they'd called it the ContinentalX, then it'd be superhellacool).

We are oversatured with advertising...advertisers and corporations are
scrambling to find ways to get it to us on the net, on our cell phones,
in video games etc. if advertising turns you off now...just wait 10 years
as more of its coming in unique ways that most people have not considered yet.

One of the better ads out today:

Simple, funny, and it gets the point across without over-exposing the car.

Is the M-B ad regional?

I haven't seen it here in L.A.

Maybe because there are too many dumb blond beauties whose rich husbands might not buy them a MB if they saw this commercial.

Dumb commercials for dumber SUVs.

But the hot Mom who stays in shape is a nice thing to think about. Kind of like an ideal. There are worse trends in our society.

I think that's actually a commercial they air in Germany, not the US. Too bad - I think it would work well here too.

Well they do put disclaimers on the commercials that it is simulated, so some idiots must believe it...lol.
